I just thought I would drop my two cents in in regards to Corsicana Bedding. I have worked with them in the past and the experience was not very pleasant.

The pay is .42 cents per mile which looks very good until you start doing the simple math. Tha average number of stops is usually around 8, and you have to tailgate the mattresses. At most stores, I had to actually unload the mattresses because I could not afford to wait around for the stores to get them inside, especially at the rent a centers which are normally understaffed. I never had enough time to eat since 90% of my work went to Los Angeles, so you have to eat what ever you can while driving from food you brought with you from home. the philosphy of Corsicana is put as many mattresses in the trailer as possible and don't worry about the driver since you don't have to pay them stop pay.

Again doing simple math, most companies like Ashley pay their drivers an average of .52 cents per mile when you factor in stop pay that is around $25 per stop and around $200 to unload the trailer. If you take a 600 mile trip, Corsicana Bedding will pay you $252. The average mileage pay where I live is around .35 per mile. This would come to $210 for the load, and you would add the stop and unloading pay and this would double the pay of what you receive from Corsicana.

Another issue are their lousy trucks which they buy used with about 500,000 miles on them already. They do not put maintence as a priority, and you have to constantly tell them about the problems. They also don't have prepass which is a major problem when you have to run California. I know of several drivers who were put out of service for problems that they knew about, but were told to run the trucks as they were. The Banning scale is not a pleasant place to go through with a beat up truck.

I think that the most pathetic part of Corsicana is that they don't pay their factory workers a living wage which is another issue.

Corsicana Bedding is not a bad company to drive for as a fill in job until you can get one that pays you for your time if there is such a company.

Your complaining that 600mi paying you $252?...that's basically one day haul for $252.

That's 1,260/Wk on 3000mi week....I guess all you want is paycheck for 0 productivity.

I have no idea how they operate out west and they are far from being a perfect company but i work for them out of Tennessee and do pretty well. Its not a job for someone who isnt willing to do some work to get the job done. i dont agree with some of their compensation package but if you get out there and bust hump for a few hours everyday you will do well and get home on the weekends and I will say i very rarely go without eating. i do keep food in my truck and thats what i eat a lot of the time but thats also just a smarter way to go. Sorry if you have had a bad experience out there in Phoenix but i just want to be the other side of the coin and say its really not all that bad of a job, it keeps you in shape and there is the potential to do 50k a year and still get home weekends.

I wish it was for one days work. It is usually for 3 days. For example, I would get a load on Monday and have to drive to LA on Monday for an early morning appointment on Tuesday. I would typically have 8 stops in the LA area which would not be so bad if it was any place besides LA. I would spend all day in traffic and complete around 6 to maybe 7 seven stops if there were no accidents or delays. You also had to handle a lot of cash and checks. I would then have to find a place to park in wonderful LA. I would then complete the rest on Wednesday in the afternoon, and get back early evening. Sometimes I would get a back haul and lose another day because it would usually pick up on thursday for a Friday appointment. This backhaul did not pay a penny extra. It was not unusual to waste a whole week and get a paycheck for $300.

I had to do a whole lot of work for the money I received. There is no city in the country as bad as LA when it comes to traffic and constantly having to go over scales. I usually lost at least 15 minutes over Banning.

I am currently working for a company that pays me almost double of what I made with Corsicana. With Corsicana, I averaged $500 per week. If you don't believe me, just get a job out of Phoenix, where they can't keep drivers.

The phoenix terminal basically had enough work for around 8 drivers to make any money. The rest of the drivers would get anywhere from 800 to 1,700 miles per week which doesn't pay the bills. I only lasted 3.5 months there, and my best week was 1,700 miles in a week. I couldn't afford to live working there.

I can see where the way we run isnt really practical for that area. Sorry it didnt work out. Luckily Coming out of tennessee we dont have to worry with cities quite that bad and we have more loads than we have drivers even with 20+ drivers on the board. Good luck on the new thing.

The only problem with this is.. You would be rolled over in a ditch trying to get 3,000 miles. He said each trip was around 600 miles and each round trip had 6 or so stops. That would mean you would need 5 round trips with 30 or so stops in LA.:biggrin_25523: You might get a lucky one or two weeks..BUT keep it up a few years and Iam sure your health wont be very good.
