Hi all! I see that this is a very large Trucking Forum, and I am here to learn what I can. I am a female student trucker going to school at a community college. I want to work for Crete, because they have a local presence and are really very respected out here as truck companies go. They have a regional 5.5 contract with WalMart that looks like a good job to start with-- the routes are planned and pretty much the same week by week (as far as I can find). Eventually I would like something like 2 weeks on, and 2 weeks off because I am a sculptor, and it takes a while to do that kind of work. I have no illusions about the kind of work this is. I was in the Army, and I was used to being treated like a brainless beginner at first. I decided that I would look at this more like the Army than like a regular job. I have to prove to them that I am worth their trust. I am going to be totally non-complaining, and rock solid because I have been to the other side-- I have been unemployed and unable to find work, and I have had to work minimum wage jobs to support myself. I can't see anyone making 30 or 40K per year complaining. That is "real money" where I am living!
Any way, nice to meet you all!
Katy

Het Katy. First of all; you are no longer a sculptor; you are a truck driver. If you can squeeze in sculpting; more power to you. MOST important: do not heed ANYTHING you hear over the CB radio. EVER. If it is worth your attention; check it out with another source before you act upon it. There is allot of good info on this site. Bad information is quickly rebutted by knowledgable folks. Good luck.
Big Duker, Easy Steamer and Red Hot Mess Thank this. -

Welcome aboard Katy. Crete is a good choice for a beginner compared to the rest.
Yes, keep an open mind. The first year can be misleading to some as they learn the ropes and earn their stripes
The Army mentality will help you. Good luck!
