I am twenty years old and I have wanted to be a trucker since I was thirteen. I was wornderin if their was anyone who could tell me what its like to be a trucker or if someone could tell me a good truckin school to go to. I turn 21 in June and I'm researchin to find a good school. Someone recommended Super Service. I heard they were the best. Somehow I ended up on this blog and I thought it would be a great oppertunity to hear from actuall truckers. If anyone could help me I'd be much obliged.

Lord help us.......With a name like "mater"girl you will have 20 pages worth of replies and several dozen friend requests before the end of the night.
matergirl20 Thanks this. -
So should I change "matergirl?" Your pic looks cool. I bet it hard to drive those triples. Can u tell me about your experience as a driver?
-
i really could not describe it in a way that makes sense or really covers it. But what i like about trucking is the scenery constantly changing, the people i meet can be very intriguing Or sometimes NOT... so i also like how you only interact with people for a limited time
i like drivers, most of em anyways you can often just talk to a driver you never seen before and talk like you lived down the block from them. Some of that is changing but there are still many good people in the world.
Hope that helped.... Cuzmatergirl20 Thanks this. -
since you have been around, how much violence or crazies have u seen? I have talked to people who told me alot about horror stories. Whats ur oopinion?

Im lucky enough to have a driving job that gets me home every night...At one time I was an over the road flatbedder though.
I dont really know what your are looking for as far as experiences......
Pulling triples isnt too bad once you get used to having 92 feet worth of trailers and dollies behind you. The worst thing is because of the short wheelbase of the pups and the dollies, the trailers wiggle pretty good. A minor jerk of the wheel could be devastating and put you in the ditch or roll you over under the right conditions. -
whts the most distance tht u have drove? just for one trip?
-
Indianapolis to Columbus Ohio to Fontana California to Columbus Ohio To Indianapolis. 4800 something miles.
For the most part Im home everyday though. So the farthest I go now is Nashville Tennessee or Madison Wisconsin, and back home the same night. For a while I was just going to South Bend, IN working the dock a while hooking a set of triples and going to Richfield Ohio staying in a hotel and going back to South Bend then Indy. -
Why do you want to be a trucker? Depends on your reasons for what advice I'd give. I usually love doing what I do, but I know my expectations nowadays

You should check with the companies you think you might want to sign on with. Most of them have an age minimum of 22 to 23. There are some that will take a 21 year old, but I'm not really sure which ones. (Especially since I haven't been that young for almost 2 decades.)
