Please educate me on this; I have seen several others post negative stuff pertaining to hauling containers, whats wrong with pulling containers?

I have pulled a few, not many, and did not see it as a big deal. Is it a long haul vs. short haul thing?

    I prefer my puddle jumper.

I can go here, there and everywhere.

I can get there faster, more precise and much more fun.

Normally they don't pay squat. That's the problem. If they paid couple of bucks a mile or more OTR they would be great. Simple to load and bind.

Crappy trailers (railvans) and crappy chassis's. Like Duker said, the pay is crappy too!

Being you live in Columbus I know you see them on a daily basis, unless you never go home or leave the house.

My dad talked to one guy with a shiny spread axle air ride chassis with polished alum wheels. It looked like a diamond laying in a pile of poo compared to the normal equipment. He was a o/o with a good contract so he bought his own chassis, no more DOT hassles or dealing with junk equipment!

There is actually good/ok money in pulling those, but most carriers only pay mileage and that sucks.

I heard that and agree areo trucks don't guarentee better milege, its how you drive them, I know of a few drivers putting 650 horses to the ground that can get 6 or better in a long nose and some areo guys who can't ever see 6, its all in how you drive them, besides one other point, guys in hoods don't haul cheap freight and can more than afford the nominal extra expense of fuel and the truck will last for years after the areo hood is in the plastic junk yard.

You was doing good until the long hoods don't haul cheap statement. Not all guys who own a long hood haul good freight and are smart... Some are just lucky!

Thank you! Aside from fuel efficiency their experts have tons of data on safety, durability, ease of repair, driver comfort (hopefully), etc.

It may not be the right choice for a given driver but it's clearly the right choice for a large carrier. A simple trip down the road will illustrate that. They don't make decisions like this lightly.

Something I heard said on Road Dog a few years ago sort of sums up my thought on this; "If a major carrier can make money with a trucks setup, so can you." Kinda hard to argue with that logic.
