Hello Guys and Gals,
I have an 07 Columbia with a 14.0 Detroit diesel. I purchased the truck about 2 months ago and have best mileage I have been able to get is 5.0 mpg pulling an empty trailer.
The truck, runs great, lots of power but we cannot seem to figure this mileage problem out. It has a brand new turbo in it. The mechanic has hooked it up to the computer and cannot find any problems.
He has gone over the whole front end around the turbo and charge air cooler with a bottle of soapy water looking for leaks and has not found anything.
We have also done an overhead.
The mechanic claims egr problems would bring lots of smoking and running bad but it is not doing this, just bad mpg.
We are baffled with this problem and pulling our hair out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks. I will take it up to San Antonio. Anybody know any good Detroit diesel shops up there?
-
What'd ya find out?

The last trip out after doing the overhead the mileage has gone up. Last trip out we average about 5.8. It is better but I don't think we will be able to do much better.

Did u go to Detroit Diesel?

Without an egr ecm delete it will always get that mpg. 5.8 in texas is normal with egr the northwest will be worse 4.8 up there.
-
The 14L just don't get good mpg from all I have read.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
I was getting always 6.5-7 ith 30k lb in the box. it was 05 DD S60 14 L
