I still sit.
TransAm sent too many trucks to get a single load. So I didn't get one.
I was told all day to wait. Then I was told to wait til tomorrow.
So yet ANOTHER day in Florida.
Boy, the $50 in layover pay sure will add up! SO far I've made $150 for 3 days.
What a jip. Don't send me here if ya can't get me out.

After reading all of this i have come to a conclusion. A lot of people in the trucking industry don't want to work or want something for nothing. I also think that people are limited in there view of the possible benefits of a lease purchase. No matter if you lease a truck from a company or buy one with the banks help you are still paying just as much or almost as much for the truck when you look at interest rates vs the lease payments. By the time the truck is paid for you will still end up with a worn out truck just as you will in a lease purchase plain. You will still be responsible for all maintenance of the truck such as tires and service. You will still have to pay for your day to day expenses such as food, fuel, tolls, lumpers and such. You will still have to pay all taxes, insurance and such. You will still be at the mercy of any company you lease on with if they don't provide you with the miles you need no matter if the bank holds the title or the company does, it's still a huge risk!
Sure you take a chance leasing a truck from a company just as you would financing a truck, the one up side that i see with a lease is that you may be able to get into a truck with out any money for a down payment. There is not a snow balls chance in hell that the bank will make the same offer and a lot of people don't have $15 to $20K just sitting around for a down payment you know! I have a good friend who was with TA long enough to complete one lease then sold that truck...took a few years off from trucking and has now went back to them and he is as happy as could be and making more money than he ever did as a company driver for anyone. How does he do it? He runs when needed, he does not turn down any loads, he always puts a little back into a "just in case account" and he does not blow money left and right while on the road. He also conducts himself as a professional meaning that he is always clean as well as is his truck. He does not walk into a receiver or shipper with an attitude, He does not talk in a disrespectful tone to his FM no matter if he is not getting the runs he wants because in the end that will only hurt you and he knows this. It's just like any job. If your not willing to commit your self to the job, show your employer that you are willing to work hard and conduct your self as a professional then you will not be viewed as such.
After 15 years behind the wheel i have met some of these people who constantly complain about not making money...not getting the miles and also no respect from there employer. You can understand why once you see them climb out of a dirty truck looking like they have not bathed in a week. If you don't have enough respect for yourself and you present your self to others in this manner then how can you expect anyone else to show you any type of respect or to care if you succeed or not? This is not the conduct of a professional driver rather just another steering wheel holder and in this industry you get what you put into it.
I really do think that the reason there are so many so called poor trucking companies out there today is because they ( the company ) have had to deal with so many poor excuses for drivers that they have come to view all drivers as just another potential problem and therefor could care less. If you, me or anyone else can not have respect for ourselves, our equipment or the job that we do then how can we expect any company to respect us?
This post was not meant to make any one upset but based on some of the posts here i felt compelled to put in my 2 cents, much like everyone else. On the the other hand if some of the things i have said here do make you upset then you my friend are part of the problem and i could care less! -
There is a lot of truth in what you say. OTR is not for everyone. If you get out of school and think you are going to make $70000.00 a year, you are nuts. There is a lot to learn out here before you can start making money. If any of these guys that are doing all the griping would learn a little more about the business, they could make good money. If you need to be home with the wife and kids evey 2 days, go get a local job.

"There were some things I liked as a driver, such as loading up on a Thursday in upper New York and taking it all the way to San Diego for a Tuesday delivery. And it was even better if it was a holiday weekend, meaning no boss man or even an alarm clock for four days."
Where did it go? Intermodal I think. Maybe I'll find it again. -
Sure, $667 per week average for the past 5 months makes it all worth it.
That and the fact I get to drive a shiny spray painted Kenworth.
Wait... it ain't shiny. -
How much money do you truly think you would have left if you paying for a new truck that was $125,000, that you borrowed from the bank to get?
-
Well, I am a COMPANY driver, not lease.
It gets better...
My last 3 checks have averaged $290 per week.
That's WITH a student!
OTR is not for everyone, but I have adapted. Roll with it.

That's a snip from Trans Ams website. I have a ways to go to see $52K.
See, it doesn't say:
experienced drivers can, or
experienced drivers may, or
experienced drivers average, or
experienced drivers potentially. or
experienced drivers earn up to....
it says experienced drivers earn over...
And that my friends is a slight of hands. It is a lie. -
Morning, afternoon, night, I park when Iam tired. The problem parking after dark is not getting a spot but being able to get in it because of those than can not back up a truck parked where ever they can and those that can parked where ever they please because they are lazy and inconsiderate
