Well i don't believe trucking is a job it's a LIFESTYLE. No other job has the conditions we do in this industry, do we have to pay for shower's ? Yes but you pay at home as well, water, soap, towels etc.... is the sleep pattern irregular of course it is thats why you drive when you have the miles. Do we miss out on some occassions yes again but I knew this going into trucking. I not only became a driver because of the money but the solitude the freedom and the satisfaction of knowing what I do not everyone can. I'm sorry your recruiter lied to you they all do but if you had done your research you would've known it's a lifestyle not a job and then wouldn't of believed the BS the recruiters spill to newbies. Am I sorry it's not for you nope... That's why i said not everyone can DO IT.. I hope you find a Job that's just right for you. Good Luck

With respect, I'm glad your dedicated, as for the freedom you're completely controlled by the planners and your D.M. I like the driveing part of the job, but dealing with the shipping and receiving terminals ain't freedom. Knowing Espanol helps. I don't hate the lifestyle, I just don't worship or romanticise it. My main problem is I really like being around my wife and hate being away from her. But a paycheck is a paycheck.

Read the blogs? Why would I want to do that? Like you said, its a job and that's all. I think I'd like to read a blog written by a trucker like I'd want a hole in the head. I'll pass on the blogs.
As for the lifestyle thing, I guess it is for some. It never was for me though. For me its a mon-fri job like any other and thats about it. -
Actually it doesn't matter where you work. You answer to an employer. That employer tells you what to do and when to do it. In the case of trucking we just drive to different locations based on which customer requires our services and is willing to pay for them.
We don't have to commute to work every day either. When we wake up we are on the job already. If their is no work or a work delay we can take a nap in the sleeper. Try taking a nap at your so called "normal job" when your not busy.
This job is what YOU make of it. Encourage your wife to get her CDL and pair up. See the country and make a boatload of cash. Take extended vacations and rent a car on the weekends if your laid over somwhere.
Dude you need some new perspective!scottied67 Thanks this. -
It has always amazed me that people on this forum go out of their way to try to convince others that trucking is not a good career. If trucking is not for you then that is good. Why try to push others away that want to give it a try.
The key is to do your research and choose the best possible company that you can get on with. If you can not get on with your "A" company, then settle for "B" and then work your way up to the "A" company if that is what you want.
Trucking has been very good to me.
While hundreds of thousands of people are loosing everything, I have lost nothing. I did not miss one payment and am not in danger of doing so as long as I have my health, and that would not change if I was back doing what I used to do.
Trucking is a lifestyle and I find it very refreshing after dealing with the corporate world.
You can get free showers at the truck stops...at least the ones I fuel at. When I can not get a shower, I use baby wipes...clean as can be.
I get home almost every weekend and have not missed any holidays that I cared about.
Got home for all of the family emergencies that I had and feel very good about what I do.
So if trucking is not for you, then go do what you want to do instead of trying to dissuade others from giving it a try.scottied67, TennMan, Hitman and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sound like you are the kind of guy that will complain about anything you do! Sorry you have personal problems. Maybe you should look at yourself and figure out what is wrong with your life that make everything so negative.
