Heh Gang,
Haven't written in awhile, so here's an update.
After 700 or so applications I finally got hired by a small company (5 trucks) that wasn't too concerned about recent experience. Actual they are not too concerned about much of anything.
No application, no drug test, and I don't think they even checked to see if I had a drivers license. Yeah, there should have been red flags going up all over the place, but I was desperate and needed to get my house out of foreclosure.
Everything was great for a couple of weeks, run from Florida to New England and Canada and back to Florida, gave me a $20.00 a day meal allowance, and they seemed like really good people to work for.
After the first month, the paychecks stopped coming on a regular basis!
I asked them what was going on, and they said "We are having a little cash flow problem, but if you stick with us, we will catch up on the back pay". Like an idiot, being the nice guy that I am, I said "OK".
After 5 more trips and $3000.00 later, I told them if they did not pay me, I would not run for them anymore. They did not pay me, so I returned the truck to their yard, quit, and they still owe me the unpaid wages. To date, three other drivers are in the same situation, can't get paid.
Guess I got a little long with this, so the moral of the story is, "stay away from Allen McClelland Trucking"in Mims, FL unless you just want the experience and getting paid is not an issue.
Happy New Year To All and hope you had a great Christmas.

Right there is the RED FLAG.
The Challenger and Maverick Thank this. -
So nothing yet? Uhm contact labor dep and open up a unpaid wages claim, you got records of your loads? you will need them. It takes less than a week for a response and they get cited for a courtdate and you too and they gotta pay up, also pay you penalties for each day of unpaid wages up to 100 bucks a day but no more than 90 days. Good luck Maverick.

I know a guy who went to work for these guys. He had the same experience too. Got put in a 00 International that was barely legal to drive. Was told they routed him around scales etc...... I agree with Maverick on being advised to stay away from them.

He's been around quite a while.
Take him to small claims,
and there is a fair chance you may get something from him. -
The problem with small claims courts is it costs over $400.00 to file a claim, and when you win, and the employer is ordered to pay, nothing is done if they don't pay. They are charged with contempt of court, and that is the end of it.
I have contacted the Labor Board, Wage and Hour Division here in Florida and they are investigating. I hope they fine McClelland and send them to jail if they don't pay. The chances of this happening are slim to none.
It is really sad when you look so hard for a job because no major company will hire you because you did not drive OTR for over a year, so you take a job with a small company that screws you over in the end.
McClelland Trucking has junk, worn out equipment, and when it breaks down, or fails a DOT inspection, they blame the driver. One driver got a ticket and fine in Michigan for no Michigan Registration, and McClelland did not pay the fine after saying "They would take care of it". The driver received a letter saying "His license would be revoked if he did not pay the fine".
Oh well, another lesson learned and hopefully any driver that thinks of driving for McClelland Trucking Co in Mims, FL reads this forum. It should be a pre-employment requirement.

Ya Kinghunter, so far there are four drivers that have been screwed by McClelland that I know of, just in 2010!
It is true they want you to run around scales, and if they send you to Maine, they want you to sit at the border and wait for the scales to close before going to Bangor or Houlton. They want you to run Maine at night, and any driver that runs up in northern Maine knows how dangerous that can be with the moose population.
Great company-----NOT!!
Maverick
The Challenger Thanks this. -
Out of curiosity did you find them through a craigs list ad???

Should've set the truck on fire.
