There is nothing wrong with 40 in the winter.I run it all the time in 11 years only shut down 3 times due to AZ dot shutting down the highway and 2 time in NM.
But then agian while everybody wants to avoid anything north of 20 in the winter I chose to stay 40 and above to haul decent paying loads thru the winter while everybody thats want to run the sunbelt fights for that cheap frieght down thier.

Man i have had this argument about 1000 times with people and even ran with other trucks and split it up and see who gets there first. it's a coin toss as far as time is concerned. I alway's ran 40 to Amarillo then 287 to dallas then 20 across it seems to work out either way.

I have run this route too. I try to have variety in my runs ohterwise the road becomes boring.

Found 10 through the big cities in Texas a bear, poorly maintained in areas, off ramps, on ramps not built for trucks and construction very narrow lanes and sharp corners. Especially in San Anton

i was looking at the low clerance i notice their are some 13'6 on i 20 what do u do about that do u get of and back on or is it tall enough to pass by with a 13'6 box

If I'm on the Interstate, and an overpass is marked 13'6" or greater, I run right on through unless there's snow pack on the road. They leave some wiggle room on those clearances, especially on the interstates. I've had to go under a few that were marked 13'1" and 13'2" before - on those, I stopped, set my 4-ways, got out and looked, then pulled up a bit, rinse, repeat, until I was sure I cleared it. Those overpasses were the only ways to get to some of our customers, BTW, and I called them to make sure that was the way to go.

287 is a good route except for that groucy bear that hangs out around Childress.Another old route I like when I was running the N West to Ga or was over Soldier to 70 to Crecent Jct,Utah 6 thru Moab down to Cortez,Co to Shiprock,NM and 666 to Gallup.40 to Santa Rosa,NM 84 thru Fort Summer,NM and thru Lubbock to Sweetwater,Tx on I-20 and east to Ga.Its an old bull hauler route.
