Did you get your cdl yet? If so, who have you chose to apply with? and also, how long are you going to take to get rolling? These are honest questions, not negative ones, i"m just curious.:smt064

I did get my cdl, last Thursday. I fly out to Colorado on Sunday for orientation on Jan. 3rd. I applied to JBS, Roehl, and Carry Transit. I'm going to with JBS, but just in case they are not what they indicated, I have some back up options.

I think you made a good choice, jbs used to have alot of problems, but seem to be really cleaning their act up.Those late night, early am pickups and deliverys are a little tough to get used to but once you get that year in you've got it made. The main thing I would do,would be to watch your cdl status. If you dont feel right driving in the snow or bad weather dont do it! all it takes is a little slip and you brush a guardrail or slide off the road and you're done. No load or B.S. from a dispatcher is worth losing or getting a bad psp(csa) score over.Be safe and let us know how everythings going at jbs.

So I'm in Greeley, CO right now. I'm actually in orientation, waiting to take driver test, etc. There are 25 of us in orientation, which is apparently a larger than normal group. I think about 6 new/recent students like me.

So, why did I choose JBS? Their CSA scores are really good, and they flew me out to orientation instead of Greyhound. The fact that they were willing to invest in me to do so meant something to me. I also chose JBS because of their assurances that I'll get into an '12 truck.

I'll let everyone know how the weeks going.

Wow! I ran some stats on JBS Greenly CO. They look really good. 45 power units and 47 driver to their fleet as of november 18th 2011. Hardly any voilations on CSA. Absolutely no consumer complaints with the BBB, and an "A" rating. Turnover rate is at 16%. They must've lost a couple drivers recently due to the bad weather. Great choice there.

$37,000. your first year OTR will be tough....while you are learning and having to go with one of the .01 per mile profit companies...(I think we know what companies I am talking about, but that is where you will have to start.) However my advise to solve your hometime and income hopes, try and get on one of their dedicated accounts dollar tree ect. That will be about the roof of the income potentail at any of those companies. I would become deaf to those who tell you the lease option is the way to go. The idea is to make that first year or so as painless as possible. Then you learn to work smarter not harder(less miles more money). Good luck!
