Thanks for the reply. I read that ACT has a program called ReACTivate for drivers in my position. I sure hope that will work for me. I have sent for my DAC report and will fill out an online application and call recruiting once I get it.

Yes they do and it might. I don't really know what the requirements are for that. That is something they just started about 4 months ago. That is what Bigcat a few posts back is starting this week.

BigKid can answer your questions about ACT better than I can since I am new to ACT. As far as the business questions I can help you with those. I hold my MBA through Murray State University class of 1996. BK is right you can run as a sole proprietor, but if you want to protect your personal assets I would recommend setting up an LLC or INC. The Inc has a little more protection but if you are only going to run the one truck and you drive it I would recommend an LLC. It has a lot of the same protections as an INC but the profits can be passed through to the owner as though you where running as a sole proprietor. I cannot speak for all states, however in the state of Missouri if you set up an LLC you do not have to file near the paper work that you would if you were an INC. Check with the secretary of state that you live in to see what they require. And that is the quick answer.

Sounds like ACT is very proactive and less reactive like other outfits. I am taking in everything I read in these forums. So far I like this thread and disecting as much as possible.

legalzoom.com can help you do an LLC or a corporation, quick and easy and cheap. (relatively). This is not an ad and I am not affiliated. I have just used them in the past.

Called ACT recruiter today and she said they could not accept me. I asked about the ReACTivate program and she said that I still needed recent experience. She didn't say how much experience. I guess I'm SOL for now with ACT. I hope all companies aren't this way or I'll have one heck of a time getting a driving job. Thanks for everyone's help.

No full moon u do not have to have your haz mat to start but the extra pay is worth it. I already had my haz mat but if u start first then get your haz mat act will reimburse u for the cost of the background check. The extra pay makes it worth the trouble of getting it.
