It isn't too bad at the new location as long as everything is in order. It is much better with staggered renewal dates. I still don't understand why we can't go to our local tag office and get our apportioned plates. I have a friend who lives in Virginia and he can get his IRP and IFTA at a local office. With computers it seems like it would be fairly easy to do at any local tag office. However, there are times when I have seen longer lines at my local tag office than in Nashville. I remember going up to renew my plates once when Averitt was there to get a stack (literally) of tags for their trucks. That was a little bit of a wait. They had a room full of people that day, too.

Where do you get your IRP and IFTA? People keep saying local office. I don't get it, Don't they mean DMV? Department of Motor Vehicle? or Department of Transportation? Still, I dont even know where to go. I live in MN so maybe I should go Downtown?

I never left our house when I originally obtained my Apportioned Plate and IFTA. Did it all over the phone and via FAX.

Most states require you to get your IFTA and IRP from your state department of revenue or similar department. Few will allow you to get it locally. You should be able to google IRP or IFTA for your state government and find out where you need to go in your state. Many states have the forms that can be downloaded online. If not, then you should be able to contact the department in your state that handles it and they can mail the forms to you.
