1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I have finally made a decission on which company to go with for training and job. I just want to thank everyone that offered advice ( over opinions ). There are alot of good truckers on here that give good sound advice and you are an asset to this website. With that said...the next part might be lengthy, but might help some other newbee in choosing which way to go for a carreer.

I first went several months ago to a truckstop and grabbed every magazine they had out front. Went through them and wrote down every one that offered training. Then I went to every one of their websites. Read every page of everyone and jotted down notes ( such as pay, hometime, fleets, types of routes, etc. ). Then after every set down for weeks comparing and seeing how each met what I wanted. I finished with a list that included....flatbeds, reefers, tanks, and vans. That list consited of Maverick, Willis Shaw, Steavens, Scheinder, Roehl, Swift, and Prime. So not what ? They all LOOKED good. I decide to find a truckers advice forum and found this site. So for about a month and half i have been asking question on here and talking to drivers at truckstops. Both have been a big help. The recruiters will answer your direct question but dont seem to volunteer much. Anyway from the advice I dropped Maverick. MAVERICK--- I THINK IS A GOOD COMPANY, BUT NOT FOR AN OLD NEWBEE LIKE MY SELF. After more advice I dropped Willis Shaw & Steavens. Being Reefers I gathered would be alot more DOWNTOWN deleveries to markets & resturants, and I am not a big fan of cities to begin with. Next to go was PRIME. I really like what I was hearing from others about Prime and was considering a tanker with them. After some good advice on here, on the lines of starting on a tanker is not the best thing for a newbee, that I should get some OTR exp. first then go to tanks ( tank drivers say they love it ). So that left me with 3. I really liked one comfort zone that SWIFT had. I want alot of miles as in otr but this was a large region with cent. Illinois right in the middle. WoW.....trying to decifer on the input I got on the....was a mind trip. Every driver that works for them loves them.....everyone that doesnt hates them. That one was confusing. In the end....there was just to many questions in my mind....so their out. Now SCHNEIDER or ROEHL. Both were highly recomended on here and by drivers I talked to. Both pay the same since Schneiders raise ( Rhoel pays practical tho ) but Schneider supposably has discounts at alot of shopping which might add up at the homefront. Roehl had alot more working options. It was basicly for 2 weeks back and forth one one day then the other the next. Till recently I read about changes at Rhoel and seeing drivers on here complain about not getting miles. That is completly different then what I have heard from Schneider drivers, their only complaint was being kept out on the road too much, with more miles then they wanted. So To bring this NOVEL to an end......I am going to apply with SCHNEIDER to get the miles. Also I live just 15 miles from 70, 17 miles from 57 and about 30 from 74. Schneider trucks are all over those roads. So i should have no problem getting home time. I dont mind the bieng an indentured servent for 18 months because I would not ever quit a place in just a few months because I did not think I was getting it all right now. I go in knowing I have to prove myself. Once I do that which take more then a couple months, everything should start looking better. Bottom line NEWBEES, get all the info you can, then decide from all the info which is the best fit for you. What might not work for one, just may be the perfect company for your needs. So If you are still with me........THANKS AGAIN TO ALL YOU SEASONED DRIVERS FOR ALL THE GOOD ADVICE.

I'm planning on starting with Schneider at the end of this year. What is the average take home pay for solo versus team driving OTR?
