Makes since, glad I got it figured out at least. I know I'll be taking the bigger paycheck at the start for sure.

Talked with Spat today on the phone. Wish I was in FL right now it's in the 30s here at home!

SORRY to confuse anyone... If FFE is paying you per diem, then that is probably reported that way on your W-2, correct? so that would maybe negate even having to itemize? Personally, I always itemized, since everything you need and use on the truck is a deductible write-off, so why not do it. Please ask FFE about it or a tax consultant. Tell your tax preparer that you're partially paid by per diem, they should know what to do. If they don't know, find another one. Been years since I was paid by per diem. Sorry again. All I know is that is how I calculate my days on road, I itemize my return, and let my tax guy figure it out.

I accidentally deleted it from prior post, so Thanks again to Playmaker and other contributors for a cool and helpful thread.

Thank both Playmaker and Ribeye. I'll research it some more, however I think I fully understand it now. It's new to me that's for sure.

tecnicaly the company dous not pay you perdium. what it is you are alowed to claim 40 something dollars a day tax free for every day that you are on the road. when you do your check call in the morning it puts you in for the perdium and when you check comes that amount of money is not taxed. that is how i understand it. i have 300 something each week non taxed on my check for perdium

So if you don't do your check call in the mornings is the $300 something just taxed on your pay each week? Or is it not paid till the end of the year. That's one thing I was not clear on.

Each Company does it different on per diem. Here it's $52 a day equal out to $364. They will take that out of your gross right from the start. What ever is left they do all your deductions. After all the deductions are taken out they put the $364 back in. You get it by doing a check call on the PEOPLENET Each day.

Can anyone tell me if you can take your truck home on your days off?
