Are there any schools in the Western U.S. that specialize in oil field trucking? Or do any of the oil companies have trucking schools? Time to get in on the fracking boom.

Don't know of any trucking schools for the oil field industry, but there is a place in Weatherford, Texas that will train you in their truck for your road test. I here that if you have your cdl, some frac companies will put you to work.

Here in NE Utah the local tech college offers a CDL course geared towards the oilfield. 11-15 weeks on your own dime ($4k) that covers everything or you can do the 2-3 week course if you get on with one of the local companies first and they put you in training for them specifically. Two big ones are Halliburton and BJ Hughes. The college is the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College in Vernal, UT.

If you take a course from like Sage. Will they look at the CDL licence the same as the 11-15 week course?

Out here in Indiana, they only have 3 week courses. Do they only like to hire like other grads. Then allow you to go for the 11-15 week course geared for the oilfields?

Not sure how they look at it - to most employers out here a CDL is a CDL. In order to do the 2-3 week course you must already be an employ of one of the companies that send you for training. There are other ways to get CDL training out here, but I don't know how "honest" they are about the training.

I've been in ND since the beginning of October and, from what I've seen, the companies that are hiring (and there are MULTITUDES of them) only care about your class A, tanker and HazMat (if you're hauling fuel). Many places actually hire class B CDLs. The companies train you extensively on what you're hauling. Also...the company I work for has quite a few drivers who are fresh out of school.

I went to school for 5 weeks. Class A, tanker, and Haz-Mat is all that matters. A couple guys from my school got jobs driving in Bradsford, PA. on frac wells.
