best way to find out for sure is to call your local unemployment office. here in nc it is still available and i got 2750 for training PLUS permit, license and all endorsements. the WIA really hooked me up! it is a long process though, so you will need to be patient. i took at least 7 trips to my local office for paperwork, tests, etc.... nothing to it really, but time!

Just wondering if anybody in Ohio knows how long the WIA process takes from the time you fill out the application to the time you are actually approved for the funds. I filled out my paperwork on Dec 21st and I'm trying to get into the cdl program at New Castle School of Trades by time their Feb 6th 2012 classes start.

I did mine in 2010 in Illinois, by the time i filled out all the paperwork, attended the classes/workshops , them doing background check, me getting my DOT physical. i started the prossess in the middle of FEB and started class the first of May
Good luck -
Kinda sad that I spent so much time and money building my business! maybe it cost so much because I was paying for more that just me. Sorry guys I'm a GDI I honestly would rather starve than suck on that BIG GOV. NIPPLE That said I'm sure it does help some people to become self supporting. this program seems better than most that just encourage people not to work.

Just to bad that the failure/dropout rate is sooo high !!!

How could you fail hell I taught myself how to drive.....no trailer...no nothing!!!!!! people just don't want to work.
-
You did well,
congratulations !!! -
to be considered you have to have been laid off from a job, or you and you family has to have got or gotten public assistance in the last 6 months. Then you have to fill out paper work that is sent to the state office then they have to approve it. I just was approved this pass Tuesday 1/10/2012. I leave for school on the 15th motel, DOT, and cdl all paid for. I will have to pay for food and if i fail the written or driving test i have to pay for retest. Each state is only given amount for the year and if you wait to long the money may have ran out. I tried in June of 2011 but they had no money so i tried again in December 2011 and was approved.

WIA needs to start some kind of payback program for people who receive training and don't end up working in the field that they trained in for at least a year. It's not FREE money it's an opportunity and people that waste that opportunity need to be held accountable.
I went to one of the WIA workshops and ended up sitting in front of some clown who kept getting texts and didn't even have the good sense or decency to put his phone on silent. -
