"I came to Alberta thinking the jobs would fall from the sky. Forget that, I came with a great attitude, a professional resume package, a class 1 license, a clean abstract and I had all my PPE / Wintergear and was ready to work.. still put about 3000km onto the truck cris-crossing Alberta."
Hey onetrack, no one said it would be easy, but here you are! You came, you got a job, and a darn good one! With zero experience.Congrats!!!!! I'll see you around Edson.

Thank you !
I got the agreement all done, heading back out to Edson on tuesday for a wednesday -> friday orientation (sit there, sign papers, watch the bear aware video (again...) After that I get saturday off, then head to Calgary for 2 weeks of training, they're going over cpr-c, h2s, etc etc.. their way.. after that, 6 days off, then off to red deer for driver orientation / evaluation, get a day off or so, then on to Edson, so I'll be up there full time in February.
I stopped at Trican on the way through hinton (back in kamloops now, left sherwood park at 8:30 this morning) Trican (on site interview) told me all their driver jobs are filled but they're looking for lots of labour jobs for the frac teams, 20somethings can go do that for 15 hours / day.. not for me
So I'm gonna catch a few days rest, then off I go

OnTrack and Oil Patch,I'm planing to come out to Alberta job hunting
to all the companys for a driving job.I have all my
tickets,class 3 and some relevant experience,do you guy's
think this is a good plan or should I just fax them all ????
also who would you suggest?? thankx.. -
in person is much more effective
-
In person for sure.. there is no way any of those companies I listed above will answer either a fax or an email.. I actually cant fathom why they waste the time / energy and resources showing posts on their websites they never ever answer, almost all companies don't even acknowledge you send them anything.
You have to go there in person, then you get hired.. but be prepared to travel around, I did, I put nearly 4000km on my truck from red deer to edmonton / edson and hinton - there are lots of places looking for guys, but you have to be there in person.
Plan your route, check out who is where.. prepare to stay at least a week - if you want something really quick you can head directly to ft mac area, probably get on in a day.oilfield Thanks this. -
Thankx OneTrack,do most of the companies have an office in ft mac ??
-
Im seriously considering making the move from SW Ontario to "the patch". Lots of family out there.
-
It's getting late in the season. We only have about 14 weeks until spring breakup. It will be more difficult to get on now with the bigger companies. It's still worth a try but if your serious you better get moving. Now.
-
Oil patch, is there much work for O/O power only? (no trailer)
-
Try Pe Ben, Withers, Pioneer, RPM, Golosky. Basically, any company that operates in the oilpatch.
