Don't mean to hijack bullfrog's post, I have a '98 378, ammeter doesn't work either, just sits @ 0. Volt gage works so this has been on the far back burner, I'll sit back and listen, Thanks. (456554)

I think there are two fuses in the harness from the ammeter sensor to the gauge head. Your sensor is probably bad. The sensor is an inductive pickup, located usually on the battery cables somewhere near the starter. Hope this helps. Part number for sensor is most likely a Q21-1032.

wouldnt really worry about it not working, id rather have the volt gauge. find some other gauge you want and put it in its place.

Thank you Duramaxxed, sounds easy enough to look into.
Funny how things change, I can remember when volt gages first came in vehicles I thought they were pointless, why would you need a voltmeter when you already have an ammeter?? now I have to agree with you kalh7, I would rather have the voltmeter. But as long as it's there I'd like to fix it. -
Thanks Duramaxxed. I checked with Peterbilt today and gave them part # Q21-1032 and discovered a sensor for the amp meter somewhere between the fire wall and the starter. I'm planning a wiring safari in the near future with the wiring diagram Pete gave me.

I checked both fuses and they were ok. I also replaced a 150 amp circuit breaker located in the fram right above the starter. Didn't even know it was there and 2 Pete parts houses didn't know about it either. Barney at Shreveport Pete knew about it and explain alot to me. He's been there over 20 years and is good.

FYI. Part Q21-1032 crosses over to part MS-1150 at Pete. It's called an Amp Meter Sensor.
