You usually have pretty good comments but I have to call you on this it does take skill to run a winch truck. I don't kno how many loads you've ever sucked on but I've done thousands and trained lots of people to do it and it does take a special skill set.

What I'm talking about is being able to walk up to a load and judge that it might be 20 to 30 thousand pounds heavier on one side than the other and then you've got to put it on your trailer in the right spot so that it will ride level. You've got to be able to back up to a building and get it on your trailer, you can be a few inches to one side or the other but you've got to be straight ar it doesn't come over your tail roll easy. You've got to be able to tell when to quit before you break your winch line so that you don't drop that million dollar load. Most drivers these days don't pay enough attention to be able to learn most of that. And that's just a winch tractor when you start talking bed or pole trucks it gets to be a whole different ball game. I've been up 12 foot ramps pulling 100k draw tools off a floor then sliding down into a mud hole and not turning the whole works over. So it takes some experience and a person that has balls enough to do it.pathfinder1361 Thanks this.

Hello.....I have 15 years OTR driving experience in ALL weather conditions and a spotless driving record. 14 years of it as a owner/ operator. From 2004 to 2010 I owned up to 6 trucks. Over the past 2 years sold all the trucks and trailers. I currently still have my truck and 2 stepdecks and a spread axle reefer. I have been running under my own authority since 2002. All my credentials are current (base plate, D.O.T. #, IFTA, insurance etc)
*QUESTION*
1) I wanted to start working in the western patch (Williston,ND) or eastern patch (Minot,ND). Is it possible for me to haul ANYTHING on my stepdeck to and from sites or supplies/equipment for the oil/gas compaines up there daily and get paid by the hour? I want to work 2 weeks straight (I would be available 7 days a week during that time) and then take time off. Then 2 weeks straight again. I want to stay in my truck during that time. Is something like that possible?
2) would it be possible to set up directly with a oil/gas company to do something like that? Or is there a company up there I could lease too?
3) if I need to lease on to a outfit and pull their trailer that's fine too if the 2 weeks on and then time off schedule works for them and the pay per hour is fair.
I'm 41 years old and in great shape. No medical problems and non smoker. I'm intelligent (but not a know it all), HARD WORKER, great attitude, fast learner, think safety, can follow directions and work well with others.
I'm not looking to buy trucks or add drivers in the future.....I'm DONE with that mess! I just want to work hard for good pay and when I'm on time off I go spend it with my wife and kids.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! I'm ready to start ANYTIME
Thank-you,

Your post is right on. By the way, did you ever work for Speedy's at any time??/

Their home base is Rifle CO. They are "owned" out of Washington or Idaho. They came to ND in 2008 when the WY, UT, CO oil patches died. They showed up, cut the rates and built their ND operations. They have a lot of trucks 100+ and a number of owner ops. I wouldn't recommend coming to ND working for a company that flocked here to cut the rates to get work. Their reputation is not the greatest but they do have work. I know they aren't too picky in their hiring so if you are desperate give er hell. If you have experience and have a want to work for the best I'd check my other posts where I list my "good to go" list. For whatever that's worth. Not much probably.Big Duker Thanks this.
