Have you guys had to deal with the old jiff locks? I did at Roadway. Man I hated those things.

in your editorial comment at the bottom, about "cough cough fedex", I hate to say it, but all the LTL's and UPS are guilty of the same crime. Tueday night, OD left a pup on it's side on US 160 after he took a corner a little too fast, UPS did the same Weds. on Wolf Creek.

If you are going to pull doubles alot and you have your own tractor or an assigned tractor, have a pintle hook installed on your tractor. I am only 5' tall and weigh 120 lbs. I have been in places where there is just a bit of an incline and pushing the dolly would have kicked my butt. Always try to find flat areas to hook or unhook. (not always possible)Also w/the hook on my tractor, I don't have to wait for the yard jockey to bring me a dolly if he forgot to spot one earlier. Good Luck!

just a few things i wanna add.

Never try to turn a dolly without it being in motion..You are asking to throw your back out...get the dolly rolling and then turn it.

And when hooking to the kite, i know you can hook being offset but if youre in a yard and someone else is hooking next to you it wont be so easy. To get my eye and pintle hook lined up i offset the lead to the left, so when I look out the right mirror I can see some of the right dolly tires..back straight and everything will be lined up, or youll be fighting the dolly to get it lined up.

Before tankers I pulled triples. We had to carry our own light cord. I would always spray the sockets with WD40 to clean them and the lights would always shine bright. I use to break sets down taking the middle box out then grab an empty and go on. It's been so long ago I forget most of it but I do remember how hard it was pushing those dolly's on dirt. My first drop was a mine in NV and it always had the heavy gear but not as heavy as a full trailer. The best day I had was when I went to tankers. Sorry guys but not all LTL pays as good as the union boys do.

The doubles/triples test is a 20 question test. Alot of rookies go and take the doubles triples test when they get their CDL, and never use it. This thread will teach them how to use that endorsement.
