New Century accepting students! They will be in a trainers truck for 3 months and will be paid .17 cents a mile for all miles driven and will not drive as a "team" until 6 weeks and a trainers approval has passed. The trainer is not allowed to crawl into their bunk until that point and must stay beside the student for the first 6 weeks. The company is hoping that starting drivers here (instead of hoping that they can adjust to LTL) will help with retention. Trainers will be paid .33 cpm for all miles driven. (I am not going to add any opinion here-just an fyi and a good luck to everyone!)

Oh no. I'm not usually one to jump on the "this company is going downhill fast" bandwagon, but this is NOT a good sign. IMHO (and theirs in the past), the best way to recruit and retain quality LTL drivers is to PAY them well. Match the competition's rates. Don't just pay a little better than truck load carriers and try to get people who have never done LTL before.
And as for .33 cpm, sounds nice when you're a team and you get paid all miles, but what about the first six weeks when you're dispatched as a solo and not getting any extra miles? More work for less pay until week 7? What did I miss? -
wavking-I have been saying that to them for awhile now. I think you've got it!

First day of orientation in the books. LOTS of info to digest and a crapload of paperwork to do. But most all of it was pretty normal stuff, nothing to get worked up or worried about. I took the Greydog express up from Fl 'cause I didnt have the money to fly. NCT will pay for your bus ticket up front or reimburse you for other methods up to the cost of the ticket. I got into the bus terminal here (an hour early... who'da thunk?) at the same time as one other driver. A towncar picked us up (not normal) and took us to the Best Western in Northampton. Single occupancy rooms for everyone with a fridge and microwave in each. Breakfast was provided at the hotel as well as an order form for your lunch choice. Both were free (which was good 'cause I made my first ever Applebees visit to the one in front of the hotel last night... $30 plus tip would kill my budget for this week real quick!) An NCT 12 passenger van is on permanent station at the hotel for a shuttle and driver use. Another driver and I used it tonight to go to a nearby Target to get some food for the fridge. Have to save where I can ya know? So far the staff have been great. Everyone has been very pleasant, knowledgeable, and attentive. In earlier posts, "someone" prophesized how the owner here had run Jevic into the ground and was well on his way to doing the same thing here... well, I havent seen it yet. The short history lesson we got today said Harry sold Jevic and was gone from there for nearly 10 years before they went under. How can you blame the man for that? I'm just sayin... Anyhow, so far everything has been pretty nice. A pile of new white international prostars sittin in the yard across the street. A big change from the maroon kw's you normally see. I'm not really a big international fan but as long as it doesnt keep breakin down on me I'll be happy. Tomorrow has hazmat scheduled for the bulk of it. I'll try to keep everyone updated. So far so good. Stay safe all!

I submitted an application for this company about a week ago. I know their rep and its pretty solid! (a good thing) Does anyone have any input or advice on NCT? I'm just waiting on my new camera card with my "H" endorsement before I can start.. I live close to this company so, I dont have to stay in a hotel for orientation. Thanks in advance for any helpful info

read this whole thread... a lots been said. I asked Hugo today about the student thing and he said its just something they're looking at and talking about. IF it happens it wont be for several months yet.

HEAVY on the hazmat today. Hazmat makes up about 1/3 of their freight we were told. If you dont like it then NCT definitely isnt for you. Long days in orientation but covering lots of ground in order to get us going qicker and still be up to the level they want us to be.

Parked next to a NCT team here in Madera CA. Driving a T600 and he said they were told they are getting new International Prostars in February. Some medical dedicated first and then the teams. Didn't know anything about solos, but assumes they will too.

End of orientation today. Information intensive and a backpack full of paperwork but not anything I couldnt handle. The single drivers (5 in this class) go out with a local driver tomorrow as their road test. whenever they get back theyre done with orientation and just waiting for their truck and will be gone by friday. Teams (2 husband/ wife) got their tractors tonight so they could start loading their stuff in them. They'll both be leavng in the morning in their maroon 86 inch studio sleeper kw 600's. I'm on a bus again back to Florida. my partners are delayed in L.A. and probably wont be back this way til saturday sometime. My impressions of NCT so far... very optimistic and encouraged that this is going to work out. Every thing so far has been first rate and thorough. We are going to get our $400 orientation pay tomorrow before we leave. They do a lot of specialized work for some very special customers. Therefore they have to be very thorough and particular about how things are done. Sign on bonus of $2000 per single driver, $7500 per team split, payed out by quarters after 90 days. I'll think of more to put up here and or answer any questions to the best of my knowledge but for now it's bedtime. stay safe!
