Most companies that I have looked at say to expect 1 day off (home time) for every 6 days out. I have NO problem with that since you have some down time every day and the reset each week.
I am curious as to this: say I work and stay out for 3 months straight...can I then take like 10 days off without getting any grief?
just wondering how it usually works?
Time off: can I save up hometime?

Yes you can probably do that depending on the company. Way back when I was OTR that is what I kinda did. You dont necessarily "get" a reset each week. Basically if you take off 34 hours or more you can reset your clock but you dont just automatically get a reset.
-
not sure I know what u mean...we covered log books and unless u spend tim sitting..seems like we have to take a reset?
-
only have to take a reset if you run out of your 70. you gain hours back each day as you go up the recap. 9.75 hours a day (lines 3 and 4) and you won't need a reset.

In reference to taking 10 days off straight, that'd be something to ask a recruiter. I remember reading on here, I believe about Swift, that if you're going to be off more then X amount of days you'll have to clean your truck out so they can reassign it. Truck ain't moving ain't no one earnin'!

there are some companies that i have heard of only doin a max of 5 days, but thats what i just heard, plus usa truck was that way and they tried tellin me if i took a 34 restart it took my home time away, not with them anymore

Each company has their own rules. For the most part it's one day for each week out.
Companies start getting itchy if you stay home more than 4-5 days. They think you are quitting or something.
You'll be ready to go home by six weeks and definately seven you'll be all cranky and stuff. Not many stay out longer than that. Most stay out 2-3 weeks. You stay home a week, that's a week you don't get a check.
I've had jobs home every weekend. You get home Saturday and leave out Sunday.
My favorite was an 8 day turnaround. I would come home and most times would take 2 days off, but the company didn't care if I took 4 off.
My last job I stayed out 6 weeks on average and took 4 days off. But that was because I wanted to. -
I don't think so! Home time is just that HOME TIME!

I worked Texas Intrastate with a company that promised weekends off. The weekends started getting smaller and smaller. Finally, a weekend off was Sunday afternoon until Monday morning at midnight.
I left them years ago. Don't let it happen to you, an agreement is an agreement and a verbal contract- stick to it or move on.. -
I'm kind of in the same boat. No kids, no steady woman, I'm in a dorm room that is probably the size of a truck sleeper with a bed that is harder than a 5 day old biscuit. I don't think I will have a problem staying out for months, but I would like to take several days off at some point.
