So bender if it were you would you try to get some use out that tire or run the new cap for a couple months. I've read not to mix used and new and hate to wreck that new tire so I have one less new one to buy then ill just keep a decent one for spare. If I run the used tires they match up decent to the other side of the axle as well. ??? The dry crack is not big cracks or anything and holds air no distortion of sidewall . It says 105 psi max cold do you usually fill them a little t less psi though not upto max if so what pressure?

If it was my operation I would fastrack to the drive tire line that I planned to use as long as my wallet afforded to do so. This would protect wallet in the future from unseen collateral damage in the diffs. from running mismatches.

Your new cap will self destruct under heavy loads. Use it as a spare for temp use or when you get a new set of tires.

If you run the weathered tire, run it at recommended pressure, 105 psi.

A good set of tires is essential, try not to cut corners here if you can so it doesn't cost you more later.

I'm gona run it the cracking is on thickest part of the wall its not deep cracks or wide more or less weather check. Hope i can get 3 weeks or so out of it then I can afford 3 more new caps and change the whole axle out. I'll keep a spare on pup trailer in the spare rack. Now I gota get them on and one more fuel filter to change. The first filter was froze or half full of water guessing the other is,same hoping for a power increase with new filters. I know it is off subject but bender could that loose me a lot of power those filters. Pm me if you want. Thanks.

I wouldn't hesitate to run it short term, but would strive for a good base set of the same height to avoid other unnecessary issues.

I would be willing to bet that she'll pull better. You'll probably feel like you have a new turbo.

Might be a good idea to drain the bottom off the fuel tanks. After the truck sets overnight the water will settle to the bottom.

Well tires are on all filters changed see if that helps the horse power both fuel filters dirty and 1/3 water froze in them . Tires sure helped the traction we got quite bit of snow never even locked the diff and didn't spin a tire. Now onto my cb radio problems ?? Never ends. :biggrin_25517:

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but them some old tires. Starting in 2000 they began using 4 code.

Read more here. Go to markings.

If the last digits are only 3 numbers then the tire was manufactured before 2000.

So that means your carcass was built in the 47th week of either 1997 or 1987, My guess would be 97. Either way tire is at least 14 years old!!

It probably is a 97 but was retread in 04 or was 06 got some others that are 00 and 02 so not much older these were mostly bought for the rims so when I want to switch them I could have set ready and or have couple for pup trailer ready. They will be on probably a month after that ill have 3 more new ones to add to the other new one I have already still 140 for one new cap newer casing and 5 rims not bad. That is the only one that old rest are from early to mid 2000's same as what's on the truck before truck had not been used much last 5yrs after the previous owners dad passed away. Yes I am hauling logs with the truck. Not today do to a nice winter storm but hopfully back at it Fri. Now I need run to town get a gallon oil new cb and antenna . Hope the roads aren't to bad.

Log; I am a mech at my father-in-laws pole yard and we run mismatches some. Running poles is much like logs. Trucks with loaders and the bump around of a loader unloading the trailer. I agree with bender though. Keep your mismatches the same. We always measure and put the closest together. Also with the cold weather you will have better luck with them. Also always run stated psi on the sidewall. Mismatching stated pressures on tires will do the same as running to tread depths. We try to always replace in pairs or match the used tires we have. We have a good stockpile though. We see cracks and chunks on drive and trailer tires. Try to use best judgement. Keep cracks and such off steer tires at all costs. Keep new tires off with used if possible. Also you can run that so so tire on the front of a trailer. Try to keep your best on the rear as if they blow back there they will cause more damage than if they were up front. Tearing up lights and such. Good grab though...we got some deals like that last year on a bunch of mounted tires. Ran on trailers for a good while and saved a ton of money.

One more thing..if the filters were that dirty and wet and would do what bender said and drain the bottoms of tanks but also add some lucas or powerservice or some ATF. More than likely you got a bit through to the injectors. A good practice is to fill the filters up with AFT instead of diesel...or Lucas if you can afford it...lol. Each time you change your fuel filters this will give you a little cleaning for a little bit of money....some preventive maintainence.
