Biggest differences are going to be in the workmanship of the builder...The material used...weight, and price...

Some of the Top selling Open Coiled antenna's are

    Predator 10K
    Monkey Made
    Mr. Coily's
    55's (Fatboys R4 and the R6)

There's allot more than that...Tram has a Predator 10K knock-off, Ranger has one, Browning, Everheadt, Bad Boy, and more...

Is Terry still building antennas or are they all being done by Fatboy?

Describe how you plan on installing it.

I like the Monkey Made Antenna, but I would not magnet mount it, but a K40 I would.

Slip Seaters like the ease of moving an antenna easily, permanent install maybe the M.M.

So a description of what you plan to install it on and how will help us help you.

Maddog I've read several of your posts and you seem to know what you're talking about. I bought a browning open coil antenna. What kind of life should I expect out of this antenna? I had my SWRs set when I put it on and everyone says it's made a huge difference in the way my radio sounds. They say it's much more clear now and sounds much stronger.

He was still back in the Summer...I bought 2 55's with the thicker coil (like the R6)...little cheaper than Chargers, and you have to supply your own stingers...He will ship as many as 4 or 5 at one time for the same shipping price...Think I payed $80 ea. for mine.

I honestly can't tell you, as JJD said they will all perform in a similar fashion.I have not used the Browning antennas but have seen them the same antenna(s) are sold under various names but I'm thinking they all come from the same factory.I would suggest checking to make sure everything is tight every few days.

    gravelhauler Thanks this.

well i own the truck so install is not a big deal. it has a k40 on the mirror. i also had a nice talk with the owner of sparkys, after i posted this he said no difference between the two but looks at least at the wattage I'm running. but thats just one opinion. and I'm running a galaxy 94-hp if that matters

I run a K40 mirror mount on a stock Cobra radio and have very good SWR readings and sound loud and strong.

I am looking at a Monkey Made Antenna though. I'm a driver, not O/O but always in the same truck so I'm looking at getting the best performance that I can get!

    Will keep reading this thread.

Monkey Made antenna's are well made...My biggest gripe with them tho is the weight...They are a heavy antenna and have a tendency to vibrate loose...

The Predator 10K is probably half the weight of the Monkey Mades and if any part of the Predator is damaged from hitting things, all parts on the antenna can be replaced by just unscrewing the damaged part...And there is a phone number on the shaft of each Predator where you can call for replacement parts usually for "NO CHARGE". No mater what the reason is the antenna was damaged, replacement parts usually replaced at no charge under the Life Time Warranty...

All Predator 10K Antenna's are made by just one man...Kale Cavel in Burleson TX. And his phone number is what is on each antenna sold...
