Definitions of terms must be consistent with those in the FMCSRs.Driver Qualifications Require a driver to be properly licensed to drive a commercial motor vehicle; require a driver to be in good physical health, at least 21 years of age, able to operate a vehicle safely, and maintain a good driving record; prohibit drug and alcohol abuse; require a motor carrier to maintain a driver qualification file for each driver; and require a motor carrier to ensure that a driver is medically qualified. Note:The requirements for testing apply only to drivers of commercial motor vehicles as defined in 49 CFR part 383:biggrin_2558:

I can understand what you mean. I can not stand being around people that much. Thats one of things that keep me in this line of work. I know my time spent around people will be no more than a few hrs at the most. Just don't rush into anything. Do your research and be wise in the choice you make. Going with the wrong company could very well ruin your view of this job.

First, stay away from the cdl "mills" that promise you'll get your cdl in a couple of weeks. While it may seem great, these "schools" will not properly train you for everything you'll need to learn. The best schools are at community colleges that offer truck driver training. You'll get more hours behind the wheel and more importantly more personalized training. Most carriers that hire from these schools use them for a reason. They (the companies) are not eager to put an undereducated driver in their very expensive truck hauling their very expensive cargo. Also, be prepared to have to be with a trainer when you leave school and start with a company. You WILL NOT be put in a truck on your own fresh out of school without a trainer. It just won't happen. Lastly, it's important for you to realize that you will also not become wealthy doing this job. Especially in your first year. Use what little money you make wisely, ie. food, necessities. Better yet, utilize a family members home as your address and don't try to maintain your own residence for about six months or more. Paying rent on an apratment or house is sensless since you're not going to be there. This occupation can be a good one for someone like yourself who doesn't like being around large groups of people but it is EXTREMELY time consuming and it's no cake walk. It is highly stressful at times and there will be bad days. However, in the end, if you keep positive about it and stick it out it can also be rewarding. Yes, you'll see the country (although you'll be moving down the road). And you will be very much alone. The best advice I can give you is that if you really want to do this, then you must have a committment to it and stay focused. Do your research. Best of luck.

I applied to Central Refrigerated Service on Monday and a recruiter told me I was good to start the next Monday (If I could get all the paperwork done). He said he had a few more questions and started asking the standard criminal history and speeding tickets. What seems to have disqualified me is the fact that I was terminated from my last job. He did not ask for an explanation and ended the call then. Is this common for all trucking companies if so what would you suggest I do to get past this. I really want to start driving but I need a school that has little money out of pocket at first.
