I am planning on getting my CDL/driving school training at my expense. I have read that having had a previous workmans comp claim could affect the out come of my D.O.T. physical, passing or failing. The WC claim was related to a construction work incident, shoulder pain. All is well now and I have a work release with NO restrictions and have been back to work.
Will, or could this create problems for me with the DOT physical or securing employment after school is complete?

Failing or passing a physical does not rest upon if you have filed a claim under Workman's Comp. Where did you get such an idea?

I have read on a couple company sites re: DOT physical- prior work comp could affect your status for hire, along with of course heart related issue's. I have been looking for authenticity of what the physical involves. I have found some sites but with all the uncertainty of what you find sometimes on the web, I wanted to ask the folks that know by experience.

Most of this is company scare tactics to frighten away anyone they think might possibly in the future present them with a workers comp claim. Don't worry about it.

If you have a doctor's release, have no current medical problems related to the injury you should have no problem.

    GO FOR IT!

I appreciate your response Big Don. This is what I want to do. I have matured over the years and having traveled through many parts of the world over the last 20 years I truly want to see the United States, what I have never seen and all the places I have. I can't say I have ever been anywhere in this US that doesn't make me proud in some way.

I have been out on disability for a couple of months. I had a bone spur removed from my shoulder. I passed the physical from my own doctor. However, by the time I get my license I will not be out on disability any longer. The job I have now is highly repetive work operating a paper machine. Most jobs I would be able to actually do right now. I am not worried what so ever about it with any potential trucking companies.
