    I am confused as well.

You get hired and work at Prime.

You get a license in Missouri.

They hire you to drive the truck.

Bring the truck and your license to the Illinois exam.

Many training schools will have students come from out of state. They'll get the license from that state and then when they get back home they have to transfer it to their home state.

I was lucky when I moved to IL. It was right after the scam and between what they do now.

I was never happier to move back to TN. I hated IL with a passion.

Seems to me that most of these guys are going to school and then out on the road.

Many seem to complain that they are not back home for many weeks.

It would appear they must be in a truck.

Only problem is that many of the places have appointment times to make.

Just because they live in Chicago area, does not mean they have to test there.

Had a thread hijacker back there that didn't bother reading the first 20-or-so posts.

You get your CDL through Prime's training program - its a MO CDL, and then you get hired. Then, while on the trainers truck, a trip is arranged back through IL so that the new CDL-holder can retake the tests - using the trainers truck for the drive test, and then transfer the license to IL.

    Which is what I typed.

The others were worried how they would get an Illinois license.

Here in Massachusetts you have to have your CDL 2 years before you can transfer it without testing again. I don't know this first hand, have heard that Massachusetts CDL testing sites ARE NOT friendly towards sleepers and 53' trailers. Massachusetts State Police do all CDL testing.

search engines "cdl currently rental il " . I know nothing about them other then they are a business that will lower off a vehicle at the screening website , offer you a little a chance to get used to it then take you for the examine.

It's how they've chosen to resolve the phoney CDL issue they had and they've come to recognize it as a revenue stream. Like many other states, Illinois is broke and is looking for money. That's one way to get some. My guess is you might see other states do the same thing. I'm just hoping to get my process done before Michigan changes their mind.

You get your permit in Illinois before you go to prime. Then when its time to take the road test, you and your trainer will travel to IL to take your test. (In a Prime truck)
