Ok. I'm going to try to make this short but there is a lot to explain.
Today I started my clock at 0315 to pick up and deliver by 0700.
That part went fine delivered and sent an empty call in at 0800.
Now this is a weekend when I was supposed to be sent home. so Im close to the house. (within a couple hours)
At 1230 i send a message asking if I can just dead head home seeing as im running out of hours and still not heard anything. (and i have asked more than once at this point 'any news')
I get a response that now all of a sudden miraculously theres a load for me to pick up, 140 miles away that has to deliver monday morning 500+ miles from my house. I tell em Id have to leave sunday in order to deliver and say no. I never refuse loads, this is honestly the first load I ever said 'no' to. anyway they tell me no one else can do it, I can pick it up and take it to a drop yard but i wont make it home tonight, but my time off will be prorated.
I say ok. Im on my way. I request directions, and by the time i get em im almost ready to go. just check the map and write em down. its 1300 at this point. wanting to get this done i start rolling.
Stewing a bit i wasnt thinking properly before i accepted load. I didnt think of where i was going to park for my 10. First thought is can I take my 10 there, but i have to stop to call them because cant read qualcom while driving. anyway stop at next truckstop and call. no cant take 10 there.
and this place is over 40 miles off the interstate. and according to my book the closest truckstop is at the exit on the interstate where id have to get off on to get to where im going. now im down to just shy of 3.5 hrs now, i still have over 100 miles to go, to a live load, to a place where i cant take my 10 and closest t/s is 40 miles away. oh yeah unfortunately for me they are also closed tomorrow but open sunday.... jml ..... so i send a message stating i cant legaly pick this up. i will be out of hours before i can find a place to park. explained i called and asked if i could take my 10 there and asked if they were 24 or when they open in the morning.
the response i got was i went home and i had plenty of time for the load and i was going to be written up. again unfortunatly the t/s i stopped at is about 30 miles south of where i live, so on there screen it prolly looks like i went home. I try to explain that this has nothing to do with my home time, i just cant legaly do this run. to no avail.
eventually after some bickering she finaly say well, now youll just have to pick up sunday and deliver monday and she has to explain my actions because now she is going to be in trouble.
I try to explain again that this is a matter of legallity not convienience and ill pick up sunday and deliver monday but i will call her supervisor monday am.
get ar esponse back, "my supervisor saw all the messages, your off the load, call whoever you want"
WTH do i do and who should i call first? safety?
Need advice. Call safety?

I've had the same kind of problems, like running out of hours 5 miles from the house. Sure you are, says dispatch.
-
Sounds like a big can of dispatcher bull ####. Find a better company.
-
call supervisor and explain... if that dont work call safety if that dont work talk with VP if that dont work talk with the Prez and explain.
someone has got to give and deal with the problem.
goes to show that a stupid qualcomm is not the easy way of getting communications done. if nothing coming across after an hr or so, call dispatch and find out what the hold up is. -
I still use paper logs.Nobody knows what I'm doing,where I'm going,what time I left,what time I started.Like the old day's.When trucking was fun.
