I haven't seen the 5th amendment truckstop lawyer sheet for over 10 years. Used to be quite common. Good for toilet paper.
It has been about that long since I have heard someone seriously mention the "Federal Marshall" bit. One driver actually called the Marshall's service from the payphone we used to have inside the scalehouse. I could hear the officer he got on the other end of the call yelling at him and telling him to hang up and do what the DOT officer was asking him to do.
In regards to HM loads - I do not "seize" the load. Why would I seize the load unless it was contraband? I might put the vehicle or driver out of service and not let it proceed until the out of service violation has been fixed. Yes, I have the authority to do that. It will be just fine here in my lot. DOD loads are not a problem either. Those folks work well with us.
