I'm new at this and growing my business selling beds, lockers, student desks and the like. Usually, I'll hire laborers to load/unload. How do I contact owner operators to work with? I need a job from VA to upstate NY as we speak. Where do I start?

It all depends on allot of things.
    1. Do you have allot of shipments to cover on a regular basis.
    2. Do you want a large company or small local company.
    3. Do you have a regular run.
These are the first questions you need to ask your self. If you are a small company and have irregular shipments i would suggest you start looking locally for a local guy that has his own authority and equipment that may be able to service you locally and work with you better. i would advise to stay away from freight brokers as they will rip off both the shipper and the trucker if given a chance. There are several large company's that work with smaller shippers like Landstar they have local agents in most areas that work with local people. Do some calling around to local trucking companies and see if they can steer you in the right direction to start. If there is a truck stop in your area you could try posting on there bulletin board also.

You need a carrier that hauls "blanket wrapped" All of the major van lines have divisions that do this. Call a local moving company and ask for sales dept. They can put you in touch with the correct division.
I did it for 25 years, many companies out there will provide as little or much service as you are willing to pay for. Google
"Blanket wrapped carriers". Their sales people will explain

Didn't notice. Some boards freeze old threads or prompt you if the age of the thread is to be considered. This board doesn't do either, so any thread is fair game. Besides there might be another member of the general public with a similar question who is just a lurker.
That is why moderators exist. Let the kill the old threads .
