Well, I got an offer from a local company, Knight Trucking, that is basically impossible to turn down. So I guess I will not be going to work for Keim. Keim was my second choice, as I thought there was no way I would get hired. They have a 2 yr min requirement, but convinced the insurance company to waive it. I'll be starting shortly after Thanksgiving, pulling a 38 ft end-dump with a Pete.
I had tried contacting Peggy Friday, however could just get her voice mail, and left a message for her to call me to set up an appointment. No more than 5 mins later Knight called and offered me the job.
off to keim ts

Knight sounds like a good fit to start out with. Some folks don't take to being away from home especially in the beginning. Good luck out there Eaton!

Thanks ezmoney and dirtyrabbit. With Knight I'll be gone during the week, possibly 2, depending on how loads are going. I stopped in there yesterday after passing my DMV tests. Currently they've been running OK, KS, NE, and MO, doing a lot of salt out of Lyons, KS. It's very possible to make around $1,500 wk, this is recent actual figures from their company trucks. They have 2 O/Os leased on. I know that some weeks will be smaller, but the smallest I was shown was $900. For me that's a minimum of $900 a week more than I'm making now. My unemployment runs out now, since I've completed my school.
Training is a little different, since they don't have training program. I'll be following another well experienced driver (20 yrs with this company), in my truck for about 2 wks. This will be the 2nd time he's trained me. The last time was back in '82 as a LEO. Since he's stuck with Knight as an O/O, even owns his own trailer, to me it says a lot about the company. This guy is very independent, and if things are not good, he's gone in a heartbeat. He really doesn't need to be running right now.
Now a little perspective thinking...Since I'll be in my own truck from the get-go, following another driver, taking the same loads, my pay will not be some flat salary for a couple of weeks. It'll be based on the load, so in essence while training I could be getting paid within that spread. How many trucking companies pay a trainee that?Last edited: Nov 16, 2011

well i'm still rollin been pretty busy havn't took time to get on here but i'm still happy with my decision.

Busy is good, same here. I think the Body Shop is got to be the busiest of all. Mother Nature and Old Man Winter is pounding us lately. As usual the year is starting out fast with Monday in Jewett being packed for a change, but the holiday may have been to blame for that.
May just have to make the Safety meeting for a change this time. Somehow I'm always out east and end up waiting a few weeks before I can cash out.
Take care EZ, catch you down the line. -
