I got a very small, family run, brokerage that I use to get out of Chicago. It is a brother and two sisters that work there. They are good people and I would give you their name, but I doubt you would want it. The reason I say that is their loads from up there all go to Florida and are usually 1 pick and 2-5 drops. They pay the same good money year round though and Florida is where I am ALWAYS looking to go.

Florida for me wouldn't be out of the question. 2-5 drops for the right money is very doable. Nothing wrong with that. From what I see it's getting out of Florida this time of year that seems to be the problem.

The last two weeks are typically two of the worst weeks of the year. If you are running load boards and broker freight only, I would say you did probably a little below average. I would think that 1.70-1.75 would be about typical for that two week period. For the record, I didn't do great myself. I was down .21 per mile from what I averaged 30 days ago and down .04 per mile from what I did this week last year. my direct accounts held firm but the volume on my southbounds dropped slightly. Out of my 18 southbound loads(my inbounds), 11 of those were broker loads. That is what drove my rates down a bit. Normally on 18 inbound loads, only 7-8 are broker loads.

That is why I do as well as I do. I have a good money customer in the south with loads going north. Not many people can say that. I get out of north Florida/south Georgia area for 2 bucks plus for about 9 months out of the year. Since, as you know, it is hard for most people to get out of Florida, I get even better money coming home.

BTW, Florida isn't horrible right now. Citrus and Strawberries are moving out of here. They don't pay great but you could make some money doing it if you get a good rate in here.

Well. I am hoping it picks up this coming week!! The broker(my uncle) to get me out of Chicago hasn't had anything. He says he hasn't seen it this slow.

I know a good place outta southern GA that'll get ya $2.00-2.25 per mile northbound virtually year round. Seldom more than 1 pick and 1-2 drops. It's all produce going to Wal-marts

    Crazy D Thanks this.

PM sent. Keep that on the QT or down low as they say nowadays.

I might need to start running for him again.

By the way, the wait times at that shipper can be a huge PITA sometimes. Not a bad place though. They have decent showers there too.
