Another beautiful ride is US6 (if I remember correctly), had to drive it at night, but it winds through canyons and across what looks like painted scrub (thru Utah), even in the dark it looked beautiful.

Moab UT -- I think it is US95, runs between I76 and I40, if I recall right. Definitely a daylight trip. Actually, anywhere in UT. Watch your speed on the downgrade coming into SLC from the East (I think its Parley's Canyon) real easy to heat up your brakes if you dont get the right gear at the top.

Columbia River Basin - I84, (watch your speed and weight - cause Oregon does).

The Appalachian Mtns, especially during color change.

I5 in Northern CA near the Oregon border.

The US Hwy coming into Arizona near the Grand Canyon. I am sorry I cant think of which road that is. You will see Dust Devils as you go through the desert, and the canyons in the area are pretty awesome. (You will likely get stopped at the border, so have your papers ready, and make sure your weight is right. Barney Fife in the Weigh Station doesnt have much of a sense of humor).

The Black Hills and Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota near the Montana Border on I94. There is truck parking. Get there early, go for a hike, cook your food at one of the pinic cubicles, and dont be surprised if there is buffalo sitting outside your truck if you go to the bathroom.

    Going West over Cabbage.

I agree about Nebraska, Iowa and many of the other plains states. Heck South Dakota is just as bad.

And DO NOT go where the trucks are not allowed! Turns are too tight, and you are inviting disaster if you encounter a 4wheeler or another wayward big truck coming from the opposite way. The ticket you will get will cost you a couple of weeks pay. Not worth it! Also you may be held out of service until you contract an escort vehicle, whose cost is coming out of your pocket. That kind of thing ends up on your DAC, and can cost you a good job down the road. Read the threads on Protecting your CDL.

Also, sightsee when time on the load permits. If you dont have the time forget about it, and keep your attention on the road!

Actually, its US191, and don't feel bad, you and I both got it wrong. That was the road I was talking about, I had a run from Slattery,TX to Spanish Fork UT, and ended up driving from near Albecracky to Span ## (My co-driver drove to Albecracky, from slattery). So I rode right through Moab at some ungodly night hour, it was still neat, and lots of pretty scenery, although like I said it definitely would have been a better ride during the day.
And there is another canyon, on US6, coming out of Span ## that a truck, pulling explosives in a set of doubles, crashed on, spilling its load, and demolishing the entire roadway! No one was killed, the crater was wider than the road and thirty feet deep!

Yeah, I drove that road back when it was known as 666.

US 6 lost the road to the truck in 2005 I believe.

That's a great shot of Monument Valley Ronnocomot!

I know that running across the great plains can be boring for some folks. But I've never found it so. Seems like I can always find something to look at. Besides, looking around keeps the old "highway hypnosis" at bay.

I didn't run across Nebraska, Iowa etc long enough to get bored with it. Only for a few months on a temporary job. Perhaps if I had run it year after year it might be different. Of course, I was raised in southeastern Colorado so the plains and farming country come naturally to me.

Well Im breaking from the pack here, lol. Im from Northern MN and I personally think that is some of the best scenery around. Lots of trees, woods, forests...etc. Fresh air.
