I've been wondering when this will start to happen.

When will people learn? You give the green people an inch and they will take a foot. At no time will the environmental people sit back and say "ok yes, this is all good and we are finished pushing new regulations through!"

Won't happen, they will never stop.

well, if it gets to that point, then there will be a lot more than truckers that will be ready to storm the capital buildings with pitchforks and torches. If I couldn't run a portable generator, which is CARB approved by the way, then all those construction crews would not be able to run theirs as well. Also the roadside service trucks could not run theirs for the compressors. It ought to be fun when it gets to that level. Because, if they target only a generator for a truck, then a 1st year law student could get a case started that would either disallow the rule as unfair targeting or the law would have to be expanded to cover every generator use by business and personal. What a mess.

But then, those guys getting tickets in NY makes sense. The extremes are always on the coastal parts of the country. The middle, flyover section of the country tends to not be so dramatic. It takes a long, long time for them to accept east and west coast ideas.

We need some of those first-year law students on the case, then.. You keep hearing stories about drivers getting tickets for idling while the trooper's car is idling away.

But not sure that idling a truck fits in to the equation. I was specifically referring to generators. There really is no difference if the generator is on a truck or on the ground (construction site) or in the back of a pickup (roadside service truck) or by the home owner when the power goes out. If you banned one then you would have to ban the other. That is why a 1st year law student could have a field day with a case like that. Either all would be allowed, or all would be banned. Of course, with the current government mentality, they would all be banned. That would really cause a stink. But it would sure be fun to watch.

Different situation, same principle. Either the trucker can idle or nobody can idle. Including law enforcement, personal cars, utility trucks, buses, offroad vehicles etc.

Sadly, the law isn't that black-and-white, and far too many discriminatory "exemptions" are written into various laws and never challenged.:biggrin_2555:

I'm sure legislation around APUs will turn out the same way. :biggrin_2553:

As a reefer fleet owner, I'd really like to know if anyone has used an Idle Free Reefer Link APU system... It sounds like a GREAT idea!

That is pretty much the idea of the reefer link system...

I have looked into the Espar heater and a/c model but it is battery operated and my wife and I run team and try to keep on a day/night sleep schedule so if we are sitting for a weekend the battery option wont work for us.

Hate to buy a expensive APU, as I agree, they wont be allowed to be run before long. I am hoping that truck stop electrification moves along pretty good as that opens up alot of options.

Truck stop electrification is so expensive though. You're better off rigging up some home built unit or getting a real apu imo versus that. Me, I just don't idle at all unless it's really cold. My APU became nothing more than dead weight and is sitting in a garage now.
