I just wanted to put this out for everyone's benefit. I love trucks I always have, ever since I was a little boy growing up in Hungary. I was fascinated with movies lile Convoy and Smokey and the Bandit because of the trucks. Finally I emigrated in the US and in 2006 fulfilled my dream and became a truck driver for Werner. worked for them for a year then I went back to school, finished and wanted to get back with Werner again,Unfortunately the did not rehire me even though when I was working on the Dollar General account I was higly regarded.Anyway I did try different local companies with straight truck but was not happy. I was also about to have a baby when I finally decided that I wanted to have my own trucking company. I figured because I am about to have a baby I won't be able to drive but my passion toward trucks and the whole trucking business was still very much on so I will do dispatch and hire a driver to do the driving.Of course even with my rookie senses I knew that one truck will not be able to provide for both the driver and owner unless I pay my driver a crappy wage but I finally started to gather info about how to start my business. First the difficulties(and there are plenty...). When you want to have your tractor financed you better have at least two years of driving experience, the equipment not older than 2005 both tractor and trailer otherwise it will be difficult to finance them unless you are willing to use your house as a collateral. Also if this is your first lease they will bump up your monthly rate to almost 18 per cent. I could get the truck financed with 16.8 percent interest. I have an excellernt credit score (675) yet it absolutely did not matter at all. I thought it would matter at least a little bit but they told me at the finance place that the good score was the reason why they even talked to me at the first place but other than that it did not matter. I could not afforda down payment and a monthly expenses on a good reefer trailer so I had to buy an old 12 YEAR Old one. Luckily I found a really good driver. finally after two days my son was born I could start business. I am completely new at dispatching and load booking so I started at with the loadboard transcore 360. I have been in business for the last 5 months solely surviving on the load boards. My driver clears between 2600 and 3000 after taxes each month. I however do not make that much money but I plan to expand and do so that way. I know it is long haul but I really enjoy what I am doing. The good side of this company is that I own it and it makes me feel good that I am responsible for a business. I enjoy the dealings with the brokers when we negotiate load prices and of course every once in a while I get to drive the truck. My advice however, get a truck and trailer that does not brake down ( younger models with less than 450000 miles) Repairs are the biggest expense after fuel and driver salary. I certainly have my share of a lot of repairs ever since I own the truck and trailer. Now it is summer so my company is actually making some profit so I am pretty happy with the way things are going. If anyone has a question about anything please send me an email and will answer it ASAP
