When I used to train, I always used the top bunk. Then if trainee was resting a bit while i drove, he wasn't sleeping on my bed. And I never rested while the trainee drove....so it worked out. And no one should ever sleep on the top bunk of a moving truck. The "seatbelts", if the top bunk even has them, isnt safe or adequate....especially in the case of big fellas like the OP. I started using the top bunk, because i had a big fella who wanted to sleep on the top bunk while I drove. You people driving a century, glance up there, and try to see where your codriver would land if they rolled off the top bunk during a quick stop. Right on your head...lol

lol, depends on the build. I'm 6' 250 and wear 38"s with a belt (36" too small), but I have a 56" chest, 18" biceps, and used to dead lift and move 450+ pound granite headstones as part of my last business. Dead lifting a rock isn't like dead lifting a barbell as my one weightlifter employee learned, much more difficult.
That's why I scoff at the BMI crap they have, if I can tie you in a knot and pitch you in the corner best not call me fat -

Not sure what the weight rating is for top bunks but I have had some hefty co-drivers up around 400 lbs that did sleep in the top bunk. Granted that was in an international cabover back in the mid 90's and they only slept in the top bunk when we were sitting still.
While teaming with my wife from 2008 thru 2010 I took the top bunk in a 610 Volvo. A pretty small space to stuff a 6' 2" 310 lb man but I did it. My wife was only 5' 2" and it was difficult for her to climb up top (no ladder)besides I would get up early and start driving before she awoke so it was safer for her to be in the bottom bunk while the truck was moving.
