Stick around. There's all sorts of interesting things on here.
One thing I was wondering: how did it end up costing you $800 for one wheel and tire? The last tire we bought on the road was $200 used and that was the TA. Not exactly the cheapest place. The last wheel I bought a couple years ago (I curbed it, folded it all up, and didn't feel like hammering it out again) cost me $50. Would have been $109 brand new. So uh, $800?
Should the driver pay for equipment damage?

Hang around. There is no stupid question. There might be a stupid answer. You brought 23 pages of many drivers poking on the keys instead of getting some virus on a porn site.

Make the next question easier like what channel do truckers talk on? You'll still get 41 answers.
Check back in a day or two and lets see how that employment law attorney answers.
I liked that video Injun. Totally unexpected.
Did you hurt your head?
Injun Thanks this. -

While I agree with a few others that you tend to post stuff a business owner ought to not need help with, keep 'em coming.
I have to believe that there are plenty of lurkers that have the same questions and are afraid to ask. -
I checked that Legal Advice forum and yep it pretty much went like this one. But here is one post with the actual MI law.
Here's that thread.

As far as the tire, that's all you.
My rule of thumb is if any damage occurs to freight because of faulty equipment (straps breaking, etc) , I'm paying for it but if the driver causes damage because of negligence, it's on him. My drivers have been notified of that on day one and have been happy.
