Bigal2122 -- my husband has AT&T, with a mobile hotspot, which is nice for skyping, especially if you're leaving family behind. We were told Verizon and At&T are the best. When he's hauling to Montana though, it's a terrible connection, drops calls all the time, even with a cell booster in his truck. He hauls crude and loves it. And while I miss him, I'm loving getting these bills paid down. I've heard nothing but good things about Power Fuels...just an fyi. Good luck to you!!

Verizon all the way. AT&T towers are max'd out since they took over Altel here.

Well, I can say first hand that the reception with VZW is great while in town but I don't think anyone will have much coverage in the areas between towns. I am living in Culbertson and drive back and forth with adequate coverage but it's hit and miss.
It is also my personal belief after coming from Portland, or that the traffic and so on isn't that bad except for a couple intersections and so on. The locals at great and I have been having lots of fun even though I haven't found a job yet but I came prepared and am in no real hurry to do so until the right opportunity appears.
I wish everyone that comes here has the overwhelmingly positive experience I have had since getting here.

That sounds nice. One of the reasons i want to come up there is because i feel like the people will be nicer there. I want that kind of lifestyle. Farm country and nice people. My relatives are from minnesota... maybe the people from nd remind me of them (I had the NICEST aunts and they all had that midwestern accent, they all, my dad and his family grew up in warroad, mn up by canada). Even tho its cold up there for some reason its not deterring me. I haven't the slightest interest in going to texas.

I was just hired to haul crude for MBI energy. But their company housing is full. I was told that if I can secure any housing in western ND I can start right away.

bigal2122- The best cell phone carrier is Verizon but there are still plenty of dead spots. You have plenty of exp., especially if you were hauling livestock. You won't have any problems with a tanker.

Ironmule- I see you must have everything hooked up and operational since you are on the net. Hope everything's going well for you in Watford. Gimme a call sometime. When the grass turns green we are gonna have to go find something to shoot at, and of course there is that steak dinner I owe you.

Anybody who is worried about housing should look at Power Fuels. They are building 6 apartment buildings in Watford City, I think 2 or 3 of them are done now, for their new hires, and they are NICE places.

All of you guys trying to talk everybody from coming to ND ought to be ashamed of yourselves. There's plenty of work for everyone you don't need to talk other people out of coming. And it isn't the 3rd world here, it isn't Antarctica either. We got cable TV just like the rest of the world and this winter has been so nice the annual Tucked-Tail Pilgrimage to the South never even occurred. I'm not used to hearing so many southern accents at the Cenex in January, that's for sure. The only real difference is you can make enough to actually accomplish something out here. But it can be difficult to get hired over the phone or online. There are lots of options and lots of companies that will hire good drivers, but there are a lot more that like to see you in person because they talk to a lot of people over the phone that will "be there Monday" and are then never heard from again.

They will let you out of your contract but you have to call them. I had Sprint and they let me out when I moved out of their area I just had to call them.

I don't blame you. I don't want to have to learn Spanish so I won't be going to TX either. You are right the people in ND are great. When Minot flooded, 4K homes were lost so they put up a bunch of shelters thinking they'd have everyone out on the streets. But all but a few hundred were taken in by friends and relatives. Compare that with New Orleans. You will like ND almost everyone here is really nice, except for some of the imports that can't seem to get along with anyone, and they don't usually stick around. My wife loves it here and so do my kids. If you are thinking about it, go for it.
