Yes,that is what I was referring to. Folks must be management or don't know the trucking industry very good, because only if you are in a union job could it be said you threw away ten years of your career. With ten years experience you will only get so much an hour anywhere,it won't hurt you if you keep a good drivers record. These companies know why you quit if you tell them the truth up front. If you are a union man you would lose more, seniority etc.

You realize they probably also tuned it way down because of:
1. Lack of Jobs in Northwestern Illinois- At one time the Northwestern Steel and Wire Company in Sterling/Rock Falls employed 5,500 Persons. Since then it closed and reopened under new ownership with about 700 employees. Lot of them have now gone into truck driving through the state's re-education grants for laid-off Factory and Mill workers. I believe the adage "Low pay is better than No Pay" comes into play here.
2. You call W-M runs out of Sterling Local? Here's what Wal-Marts are within 100 Miles of Sterling:
Dixon, Sterling, Rock Falls, Clinton IA, Freeport, Quad Cities (4 stores), Rockford (3 stores), Dubuque, IA. Everything else is toward Chicago.
Kinda hope we get that contract from Crete. I know a lot of people from up there who drive. after all, I lived in Mount Carroll IL for 17 years until I moved to Northwest Arkansas. -
So your problems are taken care of? May be going to work there in a couple of weeks.

sounds to me like just because he had 10 yrs he is to good for it, his attitude stinks in my opinion and he went about it the wrong way.

I don't see it that way at all. The way I see it, they tried to get him to do a job he didn't sign up for and take a paycut in doing so. Where would the line be for the "favor"? What if they asked him to run a dump truck? What if they asked him to haul a flatbed while he was a van driver? What if this thread had disappeared after the 7 months since the last post?

well the first thing is your a negative steering wheel holder, maybe you should get out of the business, last I checked its the company paying drivers salaries, not you and with your ###### attitude no wonder companies have a hard time keeping contracts, steering wheel holders like you cost them those. That driver I am sure didnt take a pay cut, and I am sure there is more to it than that, just like you he put more on it than its showing. 10 years, come on think about it.

Crazy MaMa, It sounds to me like your just a sanctamonious, know it all who doesn't know as much as you think. Noone should be forced into a dedicated run unless they agree to it. Pulling this type of run for a week is fine, but when they force you into an account like this. SHAME on CRETE!!! I know we're a team and need to pull together to support the company needs, but being forced into an account you don't want is awful. I think Crete lost a good driver. Since your NOT EVEN A DRIVER, what you would put up with and what a real driver would are two different things. Before you start haphazardly throwing your opinion around and making judgements on drivers who make their living out on the road, maybe you should get a CDL of your own and get some miles under your belt. That way you would have an informed opinion after spending some time in his boots, instead of speaking with no experience. It's like trying to tell a veteran about war without ever having been in military.
