Question: I am under dispatch but have to take a 34hr restart at a truck stop 1 hr away from customer. Does this qualify for l/o pay? customer appt. is for late sunday night way after my 34hr restart is complete. i would have to wait either way.

Nope. Get your laundry done, watch a movie, clean your truck. Try not to run as hard every day. you can run 3400 miles a week and never have to take a 34.

Spent the last several days reading this thread off and on from beginning to end. I'm a former driver who is considering re-entering the industry and FFE is one of the company's I have my sights on. This thread does a great job explaining FFE, both good and bad. Stay safe.

like the idea of not bumping my 70. i have heard there is a time management technique (working 8.75 hrs per day, or something like that) that allows you to "never need a re-start" but its kinda fuzzy to me, can you explain? if i can learn to apply this to my shift, it would help me better manage my HOS.

Its pretty simple if you stop and think about. You can drive 70 hours in 8 days right! 70 divided by 8 days is 8.75 hours a day of on duty/drive time. 16 min pre trip and a 16 min post trip is 32 min total, so that leaves 8:13 of drive time.

So we will go with 8 hrs x 55mph = 440 miles per day X 7 day pay peroid is 3080.

Running out west you can do 8x60=480x7=3360 miles.

Now, it is impossable to run that exact, so as a rule of thumb. Keep your butt in the seat for 4 hrs, lunch 4hrs drive. Give or take, now try to get near your drop and take your 10. Not roll into your drop out of hours'

Every day will change, but just try to protect those minutes, DONT WASTE THEM. If you have a tight run, then do what you have to and spank your 70. You will get a feel for it with time.
Now if you are heading in for home time run it hard you get a restart there. As for bumping your 70, I tickle mine all the the time but when I wake up the hour fairy left me 8 hrs.

I would say 250 min, but 300-400 lets you pick up some things at walmart and have a buffer.

Well this is my final reply on this thread. FFE driver academy is great where FFE needs fixing is the operations side of things. They ate very unethical in what they do, yes I know SPAT they are trying to fix it, but it will never get fixed. I can't say what happened to me and why I quit on here do to legal matters. SPAT, TIGGER, we will always stay in touch you know who I drive for now. To all the new and further students of the Academy, the academy is great like I said be very careful on who you piss off in operations, they will act like pre-madonnas and punish you for telling them no. Now take it the stuff that happen to me just started then it just continued. I have moved on to another company. Good luck to all that come to the Academy, and be safe.......
