    Loved waking up and reading all the responses with great feedback. It was just reading the forums got me kind of scared when I was seeing a lot of negative responses for the majority. This post wasnt meant on how to get started as an o/o cause I am well aware of the search function and like you, I hate when people ask the same questions over and over on other forum boards I use.

    Now, I can get back to my research and get a plan going. One thing though, I do PLAN on financing a truck, I won't be paying cash for a truck but I have 25k saved in the bank so I think I'm good there.

    Well I am a new O/O. So far all I can say is this. Be patient. It can be a tough business. You'll figure out what you need as far as rates in time. Your first month will be a slow one as you will be doing everything yourself and you'll have no system yet. You had better LOVE trucking if this is the path that you will choose. Because on your time off at the house you will be consumed with fixing things on the truck and/or doing paperwork. This is a 7 day a week business.

    The upside so far is you can choose your appointment times. or re schedule them. So it benefits you. Which means your making your time count for something. That to me is worth something. And remember when the appointment doesn't work for you and if theres nothing the broker can do. You can always just find another load, one that does work for you and your schedule. So far I have been doing ok and I have just been running off of a load board. I'm doing better than a company driver and home more as well. Those 34 hour restarts are much nicer being taken at home rather than out on the road!!!

    There's a lot to be an O/O. It's not just buying a truck, finding loads and living happily ever after.

    You need a business head on your shoulders. You need to manage money and time and people well. You have to adjust to schedules and un-expected occurrences.You cannot be a "hothead", impatient, or a know-it-all. It's best to do as much maintenance yourself as you can. You're better off being single and a renter, because the guy that's married with a mortgage and kids really needs to produce income. You will be married to your truck and lifestyle.
