Yeah, a smart phone, Droid, iPhone, whatever, is the only way to go nowadays. There are so many apps that can come in handy. I have a laptop and internet, but I find I use the phone quite a bit for quickly mapping a route, checking fuel prices along my run, listening to podcasts thru it while it is hooked up to my truck radio, etc. The darn things are just about limitless in what they can do. Someone has already thought of something to do with the phone like you and has got an app available. Or it soon will be.

I like the iPhone, but there is nothing wrong with a droid phone. I had a droid phone, but find I like the iPhone better. Just me. It is all a matter of taste. I agree with some here, that the iPhone is about the most "user friendly" even if it isn't the best thing out there. There are only a few apps that are available for droid that aren't available on the iPhone that I would like, but not enough for me to switch back again.

    Here's the kicker....

Took my 72 yo uncle to Staples yesterday, to buy tape for his P-Touch.

He had NO numbers, except the model number. Talking to the service desk resulted in sheer frustration, and the girl calling another over to look up the listing.

By the time the other one had gotten there. I had found it on my I-phone....and made it a point to be rude at that time.

if you get the smart phone get the insurance. I went through about 6 in 2-3 years. they just don't like the vibration and bouncing around. that or don't drive a freightliner

I had unlimited date with teathering to my laptop for internet.

last summer they ran a special on the galaxy tablets for $79 so I bought one, got unlimited data for it, traded my smart phone for a plain ol basic phone with unlimited txt and 1000minutes. Dropped my bill $40 a month from just having the smart phone.

I'm just afraid basic phones won't exist for much longer

For protection, the "TANK" phone protector beats all comers.

As for your final comment. AT&T is already in "phase out" mode. You're correct, basic phones will NOT be available from them, in a few years.

Others may offer them, but AT&T intends to force it's customers into "smart phones". They've stated as much themselves in past news releases. Sorry I can't provide anyone with a link... I didn't find it relevant at the time I read it.

Smartphone is the way to go nowadays. You can do almost everything with it. If you use a lot of google services like maps, gps, etc. get an android phone, people seem surprise when they see me signing, printing, faxing documents from my phone. I have a galaxy note which brings a stylus( a pen to write on your phone ) love this thing.

Dropped mine yesterday while changing a light on the teailer(top marker light) watched it bounce when it hit the ground. Picked it up and wiped the dirty water and oil off it. Of course I also invested in an Otter Box Defender. I'm using the EVO 3D I got it for the processor more than the camera, but I love the scenic photos I've taken with it. I've also got it loaded with GPS. As far as the concerns about Google privacy, every site you use for search engines is guilty of the same thing, Google was just upfront and informed customers of what they were going to be doing.

I have the HTC Thunderbolt and it is so neat I can not believe how much easier it has made things for me and fun too. I no longer feel like I am stuck out here by myself with sometimes nothing to do.
On a rare occasion I might not have internet service...but most of the time I do.
    I love the phone!
