Higgy, make sure if you go the box route, that you get a tune that disables the egr, as that helps fuel mileage as does a tune that moves the injection timing. I'm going to do my Detroit in the next month or two, for the same reason. It's pretty sad that I got better mileage out of a 2000 550hp e-model running 5-10 mph faster then I do now with this 515hp S60, which is barely qualified to be a pony motor for that Cat.

    Higgy and losttrucker Thank this.

http://www.egrtuner.com/ PLease go buy this ....with the twist of a knob U will be able to see the difference as to your Truck with an egr system and without and you are still legal
So for about $500 U just may solve a PILE of problems!!
AS to getting better fuel MPG I know all the tricks PART of it is the way we drive and part is What LUBE products we use!
What rpm are U running at 60mph? Do u drive with cruise control ?
Try low rpm at 60 dont use cruise . BUT first get that egr tuner!!
Way cheaper than BD too start with!!

i have an isx 450. i don't seem to have any difference rather i'm in california, or utah. in fuel mileage.

i do however get about .9 better on #1 blend vs. #2 blend. i was averaging 6.4 in the summer. been averaging 5.5 now.

Thats about normal for winter blends. I know in my pickup truck once they put the winter blend in the tanks my MPG goes from 18 down to about 14.5 at best. Sucks seeing that big of a difference.

I have the Bully Dog power pup on my MBN C15 and that is how I am able to avg 6.2mpg. Before the tuner I was getting 4.8mpg on good days. It's very easy to use and they can set you up with a custom tune as they did for me and they can also delete the EGR system on the 14L

    Higgy Thanks this.

so is there some sorta magic trick that bully dog uses over the manufacture?

i have a cummins and they told me there was nothing they could do. as far as any type of tune. i was hoping for at least 25 more horses. but they said 450 horses was all it's gonna get without replacing parts.

although i've been using this liquid muscle stuff in the fuel. and that's made quite an iimprovement that i could be happy with. but 25 more would be a little nicer.

Cummins told you this I am guessing. You have to remember that they have to conform to emissions standards and other federal regs as the manufacture. Bully Dog changes all the parameters and adjusts timing and fuel use. You will get more HP and better fuel mileage with a tune. My truck was a 475hp C15 and after my custom program I now have 619hp to the ground on the dyno.

The fuel mileage increased due to a better program, timing and fuel curve. The cost of the programmer was $2,600 I believe.

    Higgy Thanks this.
