I live in Dallas... Need a change from the corporate world.
I miss the travel of my Navy days. Figured I might look into trucking, before going back to the Navy.
Anyone have a good recommendation about a training program around Dallas?
Paid training would be nice.... a company where I can get close to 40K the second year would be GREAT.
I understand that the first year will be low pay... but if training is covered I can live with that... Below 30K would be Very hard.
I am a vet, with a college education. Not sure if that means much in this world... but with all the adverstising for Felons, and DUI, Not sure if I should run, or get a bonus
I have heard good things about a school ATDS out of waco.. If I decided to just write a check for school. Kinda far from Dallas and I would have to Add several hundred to the cost for lodging.
Trying to decide if a pay cut that comes with training, would be easier and cheaper than paying out right and taking the time off to attend school.
I live near I35, and can tell that dallas has a hotbed of activity in the trucking industry.
Good schools around Dallas?

International schools has a school in Dallas and in Fort Worth. I went to the one in Fort Worth and thought it was good. Got a job with Roehl afterwards. Roehl also has a free company school with a job afterwards. Also Roehl has a job program for veterans. Both can be found on the internet.
Thanks, -
I just got my CDL at International in Dallas. Loop 12 (I-45 & Loop 12). I have mixed feelings about the school. Couple of great trainers there (you will soon realize how important this factor is). Don't let the looks of the place scare you off. It will all be over in 3 1/2 weeks. A couple of recruiters a week show up to do their presentations. They also have a financing package available (Genesis), unless you are going the workforce route (which seems EXTREMELY popular there). I won't say anything now, but, please let me know later on what you think about the situation if you enroll!!
Seriously, though, it is what it is, and it's much better than tying yourself to a company you may not like and getting off to a bad start. I talked to the chick down at Waco, and just got a bad vibe off that place...but who knows. Please...keep us posted. -
You mentioned your Navy do you have MGIB or Post 9/11 there is CTC in Killeen on Ft Hood it would be 100% paid for if you have education benefits. Also VA will pay for your school
