Hi everyone I really really wish I could get some help here, ok I first off want to say that I was a police officer and lost my job after the death of a few family members and then wound up moving in with my parents and having nothing... So Im getting ready to go to trucking school next week and want to move to Canada to be with my girlfriend that I met over the internet.. Anyway I will have a class A license with all endorsements(Hazmat, doubles triples etc) and want to be with my girlfriend who lives in St Laurent Manitoba which is a short 1 hour drive from the major city of Winnipeg Manitoba. I was hoping some of you could tell me what I will have to do to get a work visa and to be able to drive in Canada legally and live with my girlfriend... I hope someone reads this and can shed some light on this, its very stressful and I don't need anymore let downs in life, I really really wanna be with this girl and live and work in canada. Please help me!

i've thought about doing the same thing, sort of, but do not know exactly how to go about doing it.

The reasons for my asking these questions will become clear as we progress:
    1) Are you willing to go OTR or do you want local?

    2) what does she do for a living?

    Hi,

I`m a driver from the UK emigrating to Saskatchewan. One of the companies I considered was Big Freight Systems of Manitoba , check out their web site (Big Freight Systems Inc). They are employing non Canadian drivers.

One thing to be aware of is that because Canada have a shortage of Long Haul drivers i.e. out 10-12 days, this is the easiest way to go for a work visa then apply for permanent residency. Having said all that it could be different for you as a USA resident. Anyhow check out Big Freight Systems Inc.

Other companies such as Yanke Transport, H & R Transport, and Seimens Transport al have terminals in Manitoba and they employ non Canadians

    Hope this helps, :biggrin_25520:

    Why not just show up?
I mean; mexican nationals have been doing it in this country for years, and now they are showing up in droves in Windsor Canada. Who does Canada blame?? The US, naturally.

Maybe I'm just a little cynical, but I wouldn't move anywhere for any person I met on the internet. What are you going to do when you and your internet girlfriend don't get along and break up? Trust me, I'm the voice of experience here, and also the first one to try to justify anything and everything. If you really think about this, I think you'll discover it's not worth giving up your US citizenship for.

NO ONE that I know of that moved to Canada from the US ever gave up their citizenship, in fact they claim "dual-citizenship" and the benefits of being such; they vote there AND here. Funny thing is, they vote conservative THERE and vote liberal here. I guess Canada's left wing is far too left for our leftists.

I know that Canadian Citizenship can take a long, long time to take effect.
Your best bet is to google the crap out of the net for info.

WestCan and NIC (Northern Industrial Carriers) recruit internationally. Not sure if they have offices in Saskatchewan, but they are certainly in Alberta.
Sorry, but I have no idea what their experience requirements are.
