That's right folks, for those of you playing the home game you knew I was trying to find a way into the trucking industry. Thankfully, due to an unexpected windfall of being fired (who else could claim that as being good?) I started receiving unemployment and became a "dislocated" worker in the eyes of the state. Because of that I am in the WIA program where they will pay for me to go to Charlotte Truck Driver Training School starting on Monday. I can't wait. I think I'm going to take a page from AT's book and I'm going to post here each day about it. Woohoo!! Come'on Monday! :biggrin_25526:

It's not a bad idea. They're even reimbursing the gas I'll use to get down to Charlotte. Good Luck to you Slim!

I should also mention I do not know how to drive a manual. (Well, I know in theory, just never tried it.)

Got up at crack 'o dawn (0600) so I could wake up enough to jump behind the wheel and hit the road.

Got down there, parked, signed in and sat in a class with a bunch of dudes. Looks like I'm the only chick there for now. There's 8 of us that started today. They were amused by my t-shirt and stories of riding with dad.

Instructor this week is a hoot. His name is Benny. Funny, no-nonsense kinda guy. I like him, should make it a fun week. (He gave me crap for being from the same city as he lives in)

Today we did out first PTI, most of us just shivered and had blank looks. That's a every morning thing. (I think more of the guys with have jackets, hats, gloves tomorrow) Then we went back to the classroom to go over rules and get our books. Filled out some paperwork, did some worksheets and watched "instructional videos" from what had to be the 80's. :biggrin_25520:

Overall, not a bad start to class. Should be a fun week.

Was starting to get late was wondering if I was going to catch your first day or not before I went to sleep lol. I did my school in the heat of the summer....glad I'm not out the in the cold doing it.....but sitting in Ohio right now waiting to bump the dock in the morning watching it snow....from the toasty warm bunk with the tv on hehehe. Just get into a rythm with that pti and do it the same way every time and you'll have it down in no time. And remember....if you don't get dirty doing it....you didn't do it right lol.

Would've posted sooner but needed to go grocery shopping and then had dinner. LoL

I think I'd rather do it in the cold, easier to keep warm in the rig then keep cool. (Once we start driving them.)

Snow is so pretty to watch...from someplace warm.

It was funny watching the guy do our PTI this morning. (they had a student do it who's going to be taking their test on Wed. He forgot to mention checking the windshield wipers) He was trying to point everything out while trying to keep his gloves clean.

    'Nother good day today.

Lots of work-sheets and stuff today. We learned about hours of service and doing log books.

Also our first recruiter came by, full of bull they were too. Mostly they're trying to push people to team for them as you'll make more that way. Pffft.

    Looking forward to tomorrow.
