A couple of months ago I started working for a small company out of Jackson called Blank Trucking. I found this company on craigslist, and contacted the owner, who I will call "Ben". When I contacted "ben" he said that he would like to put me on a practice run to see how I did before hiring me.
I thought it was a little weird that he would send me out on a trip without getting me insured, or on paper in anyway. I accepted however because I was desperate, and with my experience(about 1.5 years.) had few options outside of the mega carriers.
After running for him for a few months, still without being insured or on the books, I was fed up and found a job with a tractor trailer dump truck company. After I informed him of this, he increased my workload, which was already illegal. I refused to take a load straight to indianapolis from central wisconsin after already working 14+hours, I informed him that I was too tired.
I stopped home to take a nap, I awoke 6 hours later to find my truck gone, alot of my stuff was in the truck, including a kindle fire tablet, ps3, atlas, and rand mcnally gps. On top of that he refuses to give me my pay, I am owed for 3 weeks.
There is a very small chance that you will run into this guy, as I doubt he actually has more than 1 or 2 trucks. But just be forewarned of anyone like this, if you are not on the payroll, dont do it, it is too easy to be screwed over.
Btw I know it was stupid, so please no need to point out the obvious, I already feel bad enough.

To clarify, the owner "Ben" was the one who took the truck while I was sleeping. It is so messed up that the guy cant even give me my stuff. I can understand that sort of greed that would make someone skip out on pay, but to take someones clothes, and possesions is something I have never seen outside of street thugs.

sorry to hear that, good luck with your new job

keep your logs and fuel receipts, take him to small claims court

Here's everything you need to know. Go get your money from the jerk!
As far as your personal stuff, if he doesn't give it back... first have an attorney send him a letter of intent. It'll cost you about $40. Pretty much a lawyer letter stating return the property or get sued. Then sue him if he doesn't return it.

U4EA, LSAgentOZR, Wiseguywireless and 7 others Thank this. -
I appreciate it, this new company should be great, the owner is a family friend, and a super nice guy. As far as the paperwork goes the majority of the last 3 weeks trips that I have not recieved pay for I had that paperwork/logs in the truck, which he now has. On top of my medical(made copies thankfully, and a copy of license.)
I signed the paperwork, so it should not be too hard to get paid through court, it just sucks that I have to take all that time out, and pay an attorney fee to get whats mine, minus the attorney fee, and lost work from being in court. Also there is no way to get my electronics back, its my word vs his.
But you live and learn I guess. -
Thank you so much condo cruiser, I have been trying to find somewhere to report this guy since I was let go. DOT site was no help, but that is exactly what I was looking for.
