Is the "CTE contract" the one where you state you need more training, in effect take a 'leave of absence' from SNI to go back to your CDL school for a refresher/brush up course and then return and go through the whole orientation/TE process again?

If so that might not be a bad decision, especially if the two preventables you've racked up this week has your DBL itching to call in Rommney or Trump to fire you. (apologies for the bad joke)

As a company we've had a bad rash of dumb incidents over the last half year. I know the Green Bay division has been averaging 16 preventable accidents a month since August. The vast majority have been backing, and slow maneuver.

Trucking is a service industry. A big part of the service we sell is time related - being where we say we're going to be when we say we're going to be there. It's easy to feel rushed. Late dispatches, missing load information, over the road delays, or just pushing to earn another dime (that ain't worth a nickel these days:biggrin_25519:).

We need to commit to slowing down and taking the time to do things right.

    That means:

GOALing as many times as it takes (or taking a lap around the block to get reset up in a better position.

Pre/post tripping the trailer AND getting problems fixed. If you drop a trailer TBO, send in the appropriate macros. Also get out your duct tape and tape TBO to the nose along with a note of what's wrong for the next driver.

Read the BOL to ensure you're going to the right consignee.

Check the seal against the BOL.

Plan YOUR trip. Do NOT try and run the load the way the computer tells you to run it.

You do not have to use all of your 11 or 14. Stop when or where it makes sense to. You do not have to start your day at 0300 just because you shut down at 1700 the day before. The reason behind the 14 hour rule and 10 hour DOT break was to help keep drivers in a normal sleep/wake cycle. Most of my DOT breaks are at least 11 hours long.

Keep your DBL abreast of what's going on. If you think you're going to be tight on a load, tell them and EXPLAIN WHY. Contrary to popular belief the Area Planners don't see how many hours you have to run (at least on the old system, I have no idea how the black magic of WF works). All they and the support shift Ops people see is what you send in on the mac18 that gets processed by our good friends in Olemc, Cezch Republic. If you run past midnight, do multiple loads (and thus multiple 18s) during the day, or otherwise confuse our Czech friends it may appear that you have plenty of time. Weather.com may be great for forecasting the weather but it's rotten for proving the weather was bad. In other words what's self evident to you sitting in the cab with a panoramic view can't be seen over the phone. Be descriptive as Dickens.

    Apologies for the long ramble.

FYI, I 94 southbound at the 322 in Wisconsin heading towards Chicago is shut down for an accident. Appears an orange pumpkin was involved, the roads are terrible.

I pulled off at the 322 and parked at the Flying J.....I ain't driving in this crap, got till Sunday to deliver this in PA.
