Been a company driver for six years with about 700000 miles. Want to move to either road runner or landstar, but I don't have a perfect record. Have four preventable accidents, all "minor"...brushed a boulder taking a little paint off the fender, ran though a pile of snow put a small crack in fender (first six months of driving), took off trl door backing into dock, and side swiped a car in parking lot (not dot recordable). Also have ticket for ten over, and out out service for not having logs updated, both almost three years ago. Question is will I find all doors closed? Thanks

From the looks of it forget about Landstar. They list what disqualifies prospective contractors on their website www.landstar.com as I recall 10 over is a deal breaker less than 2 or 3 years old. And if your DAC, PSP looks as bad as what you posted? Forget about it, but check their website and call to be certain. You must also have 6 months minimum as an o/o.

I hate to say it but I think you will have a hard time getting a job with any reputable company until most all of that stuff is long gone. Between CSA and insurance company's you gotta keep your record clean these days.

Here are the minimum requirements for leasing on with Landstar. From what I've read that you've posted, you should be able to lease on according to their MinRecs. However, I will stipulate that Landstar prides itself on their safety record and on-time delivery service. If you do happen to get signed on and keep having accidents and OOS for logs, you'll likely find yourself dropped fairly quickly. The BCO's are some of the best out there. From what I've heard from other BCO's, they drop guys very regularly to keep their CSA scores down and won't hesitate to do so if you foul up. Regardless, I'd call them and see.
If you get on, get a flatbed or expedited. You'll stay busy. Good luck to you. My family have been agents with Landstar since the mid-90's and I love working with them and our drivers. There is also a forum out there specifically for Landstar BCO's that is full of good information. I won't link it here out of respect, but you can google search it very easily.
1. What are the minimum requirements?
For tractor-trailer and expedited owner/operators, the minimum requirements are:
- 23 years of age
- For tractor-trailer, Class A CDL with HazMat (H) or combination (X) endorsement. For expedited, Class A or B CDL with HazMat (H) or combination (X) endorsement.
- No more than two at-fault accidents and two motor vehicle violations within the previous 36 months, or no more than one at-fault accident and three motor vehicle violations during the previous 36 months. No involvement in a preventable DOT recordable accident in the past 12 months.
- 1 year (tractor-trailer) or 6 months (expedited) of verifiable over-the-road driving (including snow and ice) within the past three years; or three years verifiable experience in the last 10 years, of which 6 months must be within the previous 48 months, with a Class A CDL (tractor-trailer) or Class A or B CDL (expedited) using the type of equipment similar to what you will be operating at Landstar.
- No felony convictions within the past 10 years. All other felony and misdemeanor charges are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- No positive drug or alcohol test including refusals and pre-employment results.
- No suspensions of more than 30 days for moving violations in the last 36 months.
- Proficient enough in English to understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, make entries on reports and records, and converse with the public.
- Provide and maintain proper levels and types of approved insurance during your lease with Landstar including:
- Unladen Liability and Occupational Accident coverage or, in some cases, statutory Workers' Compensation coverage, are mandatory. If you do not participate in the Unladen Liability and/or CPP (Occupational Accident insurance) programs facilitated by Landstar, you must show comparable Unladen Liability coverage and/or Occupational Accident coverage through acceptable insurance carriers.

According to their stats, Landstar only ends up accepting 4% of peole that apply. Ironically, that the same acceptance percentage as the FBI had a few years ago when my cousin was accpeted there. Obviously Landstar runs a pretty tight ship.

I was leased to Road Runner for 6 months about 3 years ago. I tried to develop relationships with different terminal managers and got no where. It's pretty much a good old boys club and if you ain't in it you ain't going to make any money. The rest of the guys get to fight over the scraps. And forget about hauling outside-spot market freight. They make the credit qualifications so tight that almost no company makes the cut. So you'll haul a bunch for Robinson or TQL.

Markvfl, do you have a vendetta against Road Runner? as you are always bashing them in every thread, yes i been lurking here for two years but finally joined cause of you.
i know its great to inform others of what you know but every thread of copying ad pasting same stuff i think is uncalled for!
