I have a file that should be in the ballpark of 500 hp 2000 lbs. I'm pulling b-trains at 139000 # day in and out and I have a driver do half my miles so to much HP can be abusive.
I like the performance and functionality of the unit. The customer support of the Bully Dog tech department can be a bit of a pain to nail down, but thats really all I have to complain about.
If you just use one of the 2 precanned tunes that come on the downloader thing are more simple. I found the "economy " wasn't enough juice and the " economy with power " was to much. So I had them send me one in the middle.
My fuel economy improved a minimum of 5% and the truck pulls nice.[/QUOTE]
Thanks for your answer....I haul heavy too & I'm also in a cold climate & a lot of it's off road. I would have hoped still for more than 5% though for the cost. Are you just using the power pup? Do you have twin turbos? I don't know what program I have now it's been changed so many times in the past month trying to make the thing work. I do have to say, because my situation was so bad, BD stayed in constant contact with me either directly or indirectly. Not sure where the problems came from because my head's still spinning.... I've only used it for a couple loads since it stopped derating so I'm hoping for the best.....Last edited: Feb 11, 2012

Mine is an 06 MXS Acert in a 06 Western Star. I've been curious if anyone with similar to mine has had anywhere near the problems I've had. I expected a few tweaks but I got way more than I bargained for -
I'm fully aware of that.
It was a tounge in cheek bit of sarcasm, because of the moon-bat comment earlier in the thread. I was a little bit offended by it, but at least it got me thinking. I'll provide an analogy.

I used to have high HP trucks back in the days before snap-tests, EGR valves, $4.00 a gallon fuel, etc. They were fun, and I miss them. They went fast, and left many a guy whimpering half way down the hill as I radio'ed back, "Maybe next time !!! "

He's the one that reminds me that we kind of all play a small part in stewardship of this planet. He doesn't care about who pollutes or who doesn't, he's just concerned with my personal accountability. I see a lot of genius here in this forum. It's my favorite section of TTR, because of the creative minds that collaborate in it. I'm a big fan of open source software as well. The rebels who think outside of the box and slam their brain cells together. They argue and debate, but when it's all said and done, things get created that wouldn't happen otherwise.
You all accomplish out here what they can never replicate in a test lab, because you are the people who work the trucks, buy the fuel, break the parts, rebuild them, and break them again. I've learned more reading here from a lot of you folks than you realize ... and ... I appreciate it.
So, down the road, I want to build a high-horsepower emissions legal truck. I'm more than willing to restore older iron in the grain of meeting applicable standards based on the year of manufacture. It's why I'm shopping 2000 - 2003 rides with a C-15. The Detroit inference at the beginning of this thread was actually on behalf of somebody else. I drove a 2007 Series 60 that would do the sneezing thing and it was completely annoying to me. It's why I am completely avoiding anything with EGR. My last gig, I spent an hour a day with a cart full of 2.5 gallon cans of DEF fluid topping off 10 trucks, when I worked the yard. I really don't want to deal with that either.
I really don't get on here and stick my nose into anybody's business as far as what they do to their trucks. The debates have surfaced in this forum before, and I haven't engaged in them.
I was just looking for answers from the "out of the box" thinkers to try and get my hands on the best used truck with the most potential as I improve on it during the course of my ownership. -

Yes, the rest is basically stock, a couple of PP mufflers, shimmed fuel pump.
My thoughts are that the guys running tuned engines that see larger gains spend a lot less time at w.o.t. With the weights I run and the rolling terrain , and the fact that I'm 100% of the time loaded, my boost gauge spends a great deal of time at 40#. -

I love Old Iron TOO! Heres a few things I have learned.
Dont mess with Trucks from 2007 thru 2011 If you need a New Truck wait a few years while they work the Bugs out! AS to old Iron , say a 84 thru 87 Pete (my favorite) Use Progressive Propane Injection... Gobbs of power and Propane makes Diesel burn real clean in those old low pressure injection motors!!
Run Amsoil or Schaffer Lube in drive train, 1/2 mpg increase over old Petroleum lube!
And their 2 stroke oil in fuel gives upper cylinder lube back as removed by new low sulpher fuel + 1/4 mpg increase in fuel mpg
For Trucks from 96 to 03 I would run a PittsB box , plug it in ,,,dial it up!! Pass up egr motors , but if you must use the Tuner..as I advised Higgy .Last edited: Feb 12, 2012
